The Charleston Magnolia Garden Club is having its annual flower show on Tuesday, April 25.
There will be entries that contain the theme of TEA. You can expect to see some delightful entries showing creativity in design and presentation.
The ladies, such as Martha Jo Venable and Carrie Rice, get so excited to choose their category(ies) for the entries. Some of them are breakfast trays replete with china and flowers posed on make- believe beds as if a guest will have breakfast in bed with royal ease.
Our president, Carol Bullard, has to sign them up, with everyone jockeying for the fun position on the schedule.
Elizabeth Fly enjoys pulling from her yard to display horticulture specimens while Jeannie Hobson competes with her for the same position.
Marline Carpenter, our treasurer, keeps excellent records of our money spent on the flowers for the award- winning displays even though she is equally struggling to decide on her choice for the competition.
Morgan Graff can barely contain herself as she decides whether to select a hat to decorate or a teacup or teapot to include in her entry.
It is all good clean fun in competition for the show and the community looks forward to it all year. Flowers and blue ribbons just go together, don’t you agree?
We have guest speakers, Jennifer Flautt and Sandra McCaulla, scheduled to present on Tuesday, April 4, for our meeting after lunch at noon. The First Presbyterian Church will be the location for our meeting. Jennifer is a member of the Plantation Garden Club and Sandra is a member of the Grenada Garden Club. Their credits include being in Design Masters Study Club and Master Flower Show judges. They will show us design types that are in the flower show for April 25.
A special thanks to Jean McBride and Charlotte, her daughter, who have lent the club beautiful, one-of-a-kind teapots and hat stands for use in some of the displays.
Also, we have to say goodbye to our members in good standing, D’Ann Carr and Flora Vance. They each have circumstances that caused them to choose to move from our community and we will sorely miss them and their enthusiasm at all our events.
