As you know, more people have been diagnosed and many have died with this deadly disease called cancer. For the month of November, we recognize lung cancer, whose ribbon colors are pearl or white; pancreatic cancer, whose ribbon color is purple; and bone marrow cancer, whose ribbon color is green.
If you would like to represent cancer as a whole, the ribbon color is lavender. These ribbon colors are to be worn anytime to send love to someone in need, and to inspire action for awareness and treatment.
Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that begins in the lungs. Also known as lung carcinoma, lung cancer is caused by genetic damage to the DNA of cells in the airways often caused by cigarette smoking or inhaling damaging chemicals.
Pancreatic cancer starts when cells in the pancreas change (mutate) and grow to form a lump or mass called a tumor. The pancreas is a pear-shaped organ that is behind your stomach and in front of your spine. It makes digestive juices and hormones, such as insulin, that help your body use food for energy. These cancer cells can grow and invade nearby areas, and spread to other parts of the body. This is called metastasis.
Bone marrow is a spongy tissue at the center of some bones that produces the body’s blood cells. It is called multiple myeloma as the cancer often affects several areas of the body such as the spine, skull, pelvis and ribs. Bone marrow cancer is leukemia, which is a blood cancer that occurs in the bond marrow, where all blood cells originate. It can be acute or chronic cancer.

We acknowledge that a donation was given in memory of Judge Andrew Baker by Lillian S. Morgan.
At this time, the Rally for a Cure board would like to recognize and thank the Tippo community They had their annual breast cancer awareness 2-mile walk on Saturday, Oct. 28. I had the honor of being their guest speaker. It was a great success. We had about 30 or more to come out and walk for this much-needed cause. Refreshments were served after the walk. It was just awesome. We would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and time.
We will have our annual bake sale Nov. 18 in front of the NAPA Auto Parts Store, 603 West Main St., in Charleston. To all of our great bakers, please don’t forget to bring your baked items. If you need someone to pick them up, contact Brenda Willis at 662-742-9267.
Keep in mind, everyone, all things are possible when we put God first in our lives.
I encourage people to live as loving, compassionate and peacemaking children of God.
Jesus tells us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV) says, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Challenge: Ask God to open your true spiritual eyes and reveal the truth in every situation. God bless.
