Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
It’s November. Remember, on Sunday, Nov. 6, Daylight saving time ends. We’re back to central standard time. Turn your clock back one hour on Saturday night.
Tuesday, Nov. 8, is election day. You will want to take your time, your right and your responsibility to vote. Voting is your fundamental right as a citizen. Citizens vote for leaders to represent them and their ideas. Don’t think your “vote doesn’t count.”
The Southwest Key Programs list five reasons you should vote. There’s not room for the explanation of each, but you can get the message.
1. Your vote makes the difference.
2. The winner of the election will represent you anyway.
3. It’s never been easier to register to vote.
4. Elections affect your life everyday.
5. People fought for the right to vote for a reason.
Now that the weather is getting cooler and pleasantly comfortable, many are ready to sport some fall fashion with the new bold and vibrant autumn colors. What colors are we seeing for the autumn season? Fashioners, models and color coordinators are all saying for sure the first set of colors are lilac (purples), emerald (greens), crimson (reds), cobalt (blues) and burgundy (wines). Tan and orange follow. All are beautiful. Select your best colors and let your clothes fit you well. Like me, you will be just fine!
I had forgotten in late September to early October to bring my Christmas cactus plant from the outside into the dark hall closet inside, to have Christmas blooms. I was reading the Mississippi State Extension Service Magazine, “Extension Matters.” The article features a group of ladies of master gardeners who host their annual County Christmas Cactus Showcase. That’s when I immediately went outside and grabbed my Christmas cactus! Then, I finished reading the article.
The showcase features anywhere from 45-60 plants each year. The article included pictures of the most beautiful plants. I’m anxious to take a peek to see what my plant is looking like since it’s been in hiding a couple of weeks. I’ll let you know. I sure hope it can make at least a presentation by Christmas.
One doctor’s office we visit always has the most beautiful Christmas cactus and it is still beautiful in March. I enter the facility door expecting to see this plant!
Thinking of a table centerpiece for Thanksgiving? Not sure we still see as many displays of the cornucopia we call “horn of plenty.” It’s the iconic symbol for Thanksgiving. The horn of plenty represents an abundance of food and nourishment and serves as a reminder of the meaning of the holiday. Cornucopia would make a great conversation starter (especially if you made the arrangement).
Cooler nights are ahead and a little heat may feel good. A certain party here shivers with the first breath he feels and turns on the heating system. This sends the second party to the garage to get a cooling off or pick up something to make a fan! A reminder to pay attention to your space heater.
Heating equipment mishaps account for most home fire deaths and are the second leading cause of home fires. Perhaps you’ve already checked your heating system or space heater to make sure it is safe to turn on. Keep portable heaters at least 3 feet away from curtains, bedding and furniture. Never, ever try to heat your house with a stove or oven. Stay safe.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
