Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a great week.
The groundhog did see his shadow. You know the folklore tale. News says the groundhog has a reputation of being 60% incorrect. I don’t think the groundhog saw his shadow anywhere in this county. Well, anyway, he’s not a meteorologist and the weather is one thing we can’t change either.
The weather map was quite colorful last week. We can have an idea of what to expect with the warnings, the watches and normal temperatures. Let us remember the places and people who experienced unfavorable weather conditions. In the meantime, enjoy the beauty of this winter’s nature. Ice-glazed trees, redbirds, wild duck, wild geese and squirrels in the background make creation more wonderful, as we are in awe.
The excess rainfall last week left fields and some roadways overflowing. The wild ducks and geese were scattered across the field ponds, a beautiful winter scene.
February is Black History Month. This month’s annual observance began in the U.S., where it is also known as African American History Month.
The monthlong (Feb. 1 to March 1) observation’s significance is to remember important people and events in the history of African Americans. Black History month grew out of Negro History Week, the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every year the president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
The theme for 2023 is “Black Resistance,” which takes a look at how African Americans have fought repression from America’s earliest days, in all forms, especially the racial terrorism of lynching, racial pogrom and police killings.
Be encouraged to intentionally celebrate Black History Month.
It’s an opportunity to teach, learn and talk about the history, culture and contributions of African Americans. Our parents and grandparents for sure experienced or even watched some of these events unfold. Even today, events have become history as we are seeing that some things are not completely ended.
They grew up hearing these stories. We (even my generation) still have a lot to learn just going back to 1976. I challenge you to learn more about your own family history. Some families still have five and six generations alive. Read, watch and listen to every resource available. You should know Black history.
Super Bowl LVII game is scheduled to be played on Sunday, Feb. 12, at State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona. The Super Bowl is the annual final game for the National Football League, which determines the NFL championship. The Chiefs and Eagles are ready for some football! Shall I meet you there or stay at home and enjoy the “TV watch” with chips and dip?
Super Bowl Monday could become an official holiday in the state of Tennessee.
Did you hear news that a bill was introduced last week that would make the first Monday after Super Bowl a holiday in Tennessee?
To make this happen, the state would have to get rid of another holiday. They’re thinking about Columbus Day.
If the Monday becomes a holiday, it could mean extra fun (if there is such thing) on Super Bowl day and not having to work on Monday.
From our hearts to yours we send Happy Valentine’s greetings with much love.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
