Warm and pleasant greetings. We hope you have enjoyed the first several days of March. Last month ended with unseasonable temperatures. Some residents took advantage of the warm days to do some light chores outside at home. Maybe somebody went out of town for a change of scenery. Anyway, it makes you feel better when you engage in something different and the weather cooperates.
The past week brought rain and wind, flooding fields. The electricity was off in our community for a couple of hours Saturday morning.
Most residents are waiting for drier and warmer weather to arrive. These past days give you a sneaky feeling that spring is around the bend. How quickly it will soon feel like summertime!
A friend shared with me a beautiful photo of several kitchen herbs she started last fall. It has thoroughly brought her enjoyment. Just seeing the photo “lit my spirit” to plant. By the way, I was delighted to have fresh dill and basil last week! Here’s a herb folklore: wear a sprig of rosemary in your hair to improve memory.
Meanwhile, my daughter called to see what I thought a plant would do for her as meditation and relaxation, serenity and something just to regroup after a long but not stressful day. I mentioned the prayer plant, which I like. She ordered it right away without going out and got it the day after. It looked lonesome, as she calls it, meaning a little puny. A few days later (with surprise) she received another beautiful plant the company sent as a replacement at no charge, because she mentioned its condition on arrival. She was so amazed to see how both plants are thriving and getting along so beautifully. The photo with both plants is beautiful. I’m anxious to see how well she will care for the plants and hope it will inspire her to watch and enjoy her plants’ conversation.
She and I both believe plants need pals and flowers need friends as we relish “family and friends.” Now there are plants that get along all by themselves, as we have, too, and need to sometimes. But you don’t want to be lonesome all by yourself. We are beautiful together; so are the plants. You see, flowers really do talk and give you peace.
The 2023 theme for March, National Nutrition Month, is “Fuel for the Future.” This theme intentionally helps everyone realize the importance of a plant-based diet for health and food sustainability issues. This month is also designed to stress the importance of a balanced diet and exercise. Any theme chosen by various institutions or organizations will include the importance of a balanced diet.
Three key issues of nutrition are balance, quality and timing. Each year during the month of March, dietitians and other food institutions set aside time to emphasize the importance of individuals being aware of making informed food choices and developing positive eating habits.
Now, don’t forget to “spring forward” Saturday night. Set your clocks ahead one hour as daylight saving time begins early Sunday, March 14.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
