The Sunday afternoon Choir Day musical held a Saint Paul CME Church was a wonderful service. All soloists and choirs did a superb job in singing inspirational and testimonial praises. This was an afternoon of musical praise and joy in the name of Jesus.
The fall season begins this weekend. We felt a hint of fall-like weather in the air last week just ahead of the official start of the season. It’s harvest time for several crops, including fall fruit trees.
Several have asked about our pear tree that we nurtured for many years with the best fruit any tree could produce. This year, for the first time and maybe never again, not a pear. No, not one. The tree made its buds and that’s all. For many years the pear tree was fruitful, stood strong with big, beautiful and sweet prize-winning fruit. Three years back, the largest limb split, causing the tree to be less productive.
Perhaps the tree should have been seriously tended earlier. The tree stands alone as a symbol of friendship from one of our program assistants, Olena Williams, who had brought a tree for each worker, to one of the monthly training workshops. The Bartlett pear is a good-eating pear. Pear preserves, pear syrup and pear pickles are delicious. We hope you enjoy the fall’s fresh fruits.
Pear is a favorite for me. Pears are super nutritious. A medium pears has about 100 calories, excellent source of fiber, some vitamin C and potassium.
Because pears have a low glycemic index, they do not increase blood sugar level. A diabetic person can eat two or three medium pears each day. A pear can make a healthy snack. Speaking of diabetics, some fruits are high in sugar but low in fiber. These include grapes, bananas, mangoes and dried fruits such as raisins and apricots.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
