Warm and pleasant greetings to you. We hope you are enjoying the season and keeping comfortably warm. We can warm our hearts with good friends and good thoughts.
We virtually attended Bible class last week and, teasingly, a certain one said I may have sounded as if I had forgotten this is a new year. I’m excited. I believe 2024 will be an interesting year.
The Christmas holidays seem special when everybody’s saying “Merry Christmas” and “Happy New Year.” It’s wonderful anytime we receive greeting cards, a text or a phone call from friends and family. And it’s always good to see you, too!
Perhaps you’ve settled from the holidays and are looking forward to good things happening in 2024, as well. That’s the spirit! We hope the new year brings you new inspiration in your life.
We know our school students are returning from winter break with a renewed and replenished mind from the holidays. Good report cards next week will add inspiration and give encouragement, too.
The third Monday in January is a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a holiday that has been celebrated since 1986.
This year, the holiday falls on Jan. 15 — the actual birth date of Dr. King. How befitting is this observance in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today, our community acknowledges his legacy and will pause to remember.
Dr. King is most famous for his important voice during the Civil Rights Movement, which was a struggle for African Americans to gain equal rights under U.S. law in the 1950s and ’60s.
His works and teachings are most significant and relevant to today’s society. The King Center gave this 2024 observance the theme, “Shifting the Culture Climate Through the Study and Practice of Kingian Nonviolence.”
King’s work showed that Kingian non-violence is a sustainable solution to injustices and violence in the world. (National Today)
Perhaps you will take time to reflect or learn more facts about the life and legacy of the honorable Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and take note to honor the annual Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. parade on Monday, Jan. 15.
Once again, Happy New Year! Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
