Warm and pleasant greetings to all as we welcome in the month of March. We hope you are enjoying a good week. Next week at this time it will be daylight saving time. Remember to set the clock forward one hour before bedtime this Saturday.
It’s March and I haven’t finished reading my book for February, “Let Us Descend,” by Jesmyn Ward, a novel selected from Oprah’s 2023 Book Club.
The novel is a re-imagining of American slavery, interesting and magnificent. Ms. Ward is a two-time national book award winner and lives in Mississippi.
To add to my reading, a friend brought me several current magazines, which she subscribed to and had not taken time to open and read. She thought the magazines would be just right for me, and she’s right. Food and Wine, Travel Leisure, and Magnolia are magazines I have read in the waiting rooms. Who does not like Southern Living magazine?
Certainly, this was a refreshing read for me. These editions, like all, have practical, knowledgeable information. The vibrant and delectable pictures invite you to cook, think about traveling, updating your wardrobe or just enjoying family and friend life.
School students should be ready for the nine weeks exams as they look forward to enjoying spring break. Best wishes on exams and enjoy the break. We always encourage the children to volunteer to do something special for your parents while away from school. Teenagers especially can be helpful. Parents can ask the child to help with something he/she will enjoy without being rewarded.
Tax season is well underway and perhaps many have finished and are patiently waiting for returns with refund. Financial advisors remind us each year of what is new for taxpayers. It’s good to review some information, even if someone else is preparing your tax forms. Things good to know were listed with full details in an e-mail copy I read.
1. The standard deductions increased. (This helps to determine how you should file your tax). 2. Income limits for tax brackets have been adjusted for inflation. 3. AMT (alternate minimum tax) is higher. 4. You can contribute more to your IRA. 5. Certain deductions don’t require you to itemize. 6. Child tax credit may increase for lower-income taxpayers. 7. This year’s filing deadline is April 15. For the first time in several years, the deadline for filing returns will actually fall on April 15.
Enjoy life today. May blessings be yours.
