Praise God! We made it to 2023! I brought it in with the flu, but it could have been worse.
I’m excited to see what this new year will bring us. I’m sure that there will be heartache, sadness and tears, but also there will be laughter, happiness and victories. How would we know that we are having good days if there were never any bad days?
I never do the “New Year Resolution” thing. I pray every year that I keep learning and living to please God. Yes, I lost my mother this past year, but that really is the best thing that could have happened for her. She is in heaven with all of our loved ones that have gone on before us and I dare say had the best year ever! It would be beyond selfish of me to want her to come back to this wicked earth just because I miss her so. I’m just going to have to live a life that assures me that one day I will see her again. Yes, it hurts. It hurts so bad sometimes it’s all I can do to get out of bed, but then I pray to God for strength and He reaches down and picks me up and dries my eyes.
I haven’t been able to be in my store because of the flu. I would not dare want to infect anyone with this ole crud. I woke up this morning feeling pretty good though. I raised up, stretched my arms, leaned over and gave my husband a big smack on the cheek! He liked to have jumped out of the bed and looked at me like I was crazy. He mumbled something incoherent and went back to sleep. I have a feeling that this is going to be a blessed and wonderful week. If any of y’all are out in the Cascilla area, please stop by and drink a cup of coffee with me. I particularly love to hear stories of days gone by. If you want to come out and stay all day, I don’t mind a bit. Life is too rushed these days. I’ll feed you and we can sit and talk about life all day.
I want to give a big shout out to Bro. James “Bubba” Jones, Michael Winters and Matt Jones for coming over to my dad’s and pulling his well pump for him. Me being a girl, just couldn’t do it on my own. I’ve always heard the saying that “it takes a village,” but never really understood what it meant. You really learn a lot as you grow older if you let yourself.
Take time to really love people. Yes, they will let you down. Yes, they will break your heart. But they will also bring you joy, show you kindness, lift your spirits and give you laughter. In this new year, look for the good in people. You most times will automatically see the bad. That is just the way old Satan works, but if you look past that, you will see all of the wonderful things that God has put in people. Make 2023 the year of loving, helping, encouraging and being there for your friends, family and strangers.
In my last Cascilla News, I tried to tell how Mr. Ike Sayle was associated with the oldest store in Cascilla and I got it wrong. Thank you to one of my readers for the correction. I received this message from Jerilynn Prigmore: “Kim... Girl, I love reading your article every week.. brings back memories. I’m not sure where you thought Ike’s grandmother was a Whitten..his mom, Mrs. Sue was a Whitten when she and Mr. Nookie married... she was Donald Whitten’s sister... keep up the wonderful stories...I so enjoy them.” Thanks again, Jerilynn, for teaching me something. Like I said, I love learning!
As I slowly get my strength back from being sick, I’ll keep thanking God for my health and reminding people to be ready because the Lord is coming back!
