Every five years, the National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS) mails out U.S. Census of Agriculture survey forms to every landowner on USDA records.
These surveys provide the only source of uniform, comprehensive and impartial agriculture data from every county in the nation.
NASS provides the data they accumulate to all USDA agencies to help identify concerns, develop programs, allocated resources and plan for future programs.
The survey forms can be completed on the paper copy received and mailed back, or a survey code is provided to complete the survey online.
A second batch of NASS Census of Ag surveys are being sent to remind producers to respond, and many producers that have already responded are also receiving the reminders. If you receive a reminder letter to respond and you have already completed the survey on paper and mailed it back or completed the survey online, just ignore the reminder.
Survey forms mailed out this month are intended to remind persons with agricultural interests that their survey, mailed out in early January, has not been received by NASS. Also on the other side, if you have not completed the survey, you will continue to get reminders and phone calls until you respond.
NASS handles all the Census of Ag surveys. However, FSA can assist with the completion of the surveys.
Once again, keep in mind many people receiving the ag surveys will have no row crop or livestock interest. Many persons receiving the survey are just landowners that only have a few questions on a few pages of the long survey form to supply answers. These forms are extensive because they are designed to capture any and all kinds of agricultural activities.
If you no longer own the land or if you no longer have any interest in farming row crops or raising livestock, just write the statement, “I have no interest in land, crops, or livestock” across the first page of the form below your address and survey code. Remember to mail the no interest response on your survey form back in the prepaid postage envelope provided.
Contact Tallahatchie County FSA at 662-647-8857, ext. 2, or bring the forms by the office located at 360 W. Cypress St., Charleston, and we can help complete it.
