Well, finally, we are back! I don’t remember a time when everyone’s schedule was changed from before Christmas, New Year’s Day and the January ice storm that kept everyone home a lot but we have come to February with some sunny weather and the daffodils blooming, so we can get back to doing the things we need and want to do.
Our February meeting was called to order by Virginia Murphree, our president.
The devotion was given by Wanda Ivy, taken from the Psalms, and it was speaking about how we are to delight ourselves in the Lord.
We know from David’s writings that many of his Psalms were uplifting in his love for God and his tender heart. We also know that he had a lot of problems and tragedies in his life that brought him to his knees many times, so he had learned that to delight in the Lord was needful.
The scripture given was Psalm 40, verse 8, that says, “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”
The story was told about Penny, a young mother when she came to Christ. She was grieved that her husband, Joe, had not given his life to Christ also. She prayed for years that Joe would come to Christ and she had the faith that he would because she often told people that God was going to save Joe, and she was waiting to see how he would do it.
The writer moved away from that part of the country and when he went back to visit, there sat Joe by Penny in church. When he asked how this happened, she said that one day he just told her, with tears in his eyes, that it was time he gave his life to Christ and he did.
In this Psalm we are told that, like Penny, he waited patiently for the Lord and the Lord brought him salvation and he talks about the wonderful works that God had done.
Really, one of our biggest problems is that we think He should work things out for us when we want Him to, but God does not work like that. He works things out on His timetable, and that is the best way because we know we are in His will.
There is another scripture with a lot of promise in Psalms 37, verse 4: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
We elect officers in our first meeting of the year and we just reelected those already serving. They are all doing a good job.
Our fruit baskets were taken to Alisha Pittman, Bro. Martin, Veva Evans and Dale Dorris. As always, we pray that soon all will be well with them.
We made plans to have a bake sale at our building on March 30 that will be a good addition to your Easter meal. We will give more details next month.
We were delighted to have two new members and know that they will join with us in making our community a better place to live.
We then had refreshments served by Virginia Murphree and Wanda Ivy.
