We are back. Time goes so fast it is hard to keep up, but it seems a lot of time has passed.
In November, we cooked our usual Thanksgiving noon meal for the community and friends. We had a lot of people join us for that.
Then in December, we had our quilters’ Christmas brunch and went to Jack’s in Batesville. Then on to our Auxiliary building for our Christmas dinner for the community and friends from around the county. After a meal that cannot be equaled around here, we had about 90 people join us.
We were entertained by Steve McGregory and a friend, and were definitely blessed by their choice of songs. Some reminded us that we were celebrating the Lord’s birth. We must always make that our priority.
As usual, several of the young ones were allowed to give gifts to the person whose number was called and I think everyone had a number and received a gift.
We had a visitor for both of our meals, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and really enjoyed Debbie Dennington, whose family lived across the road from our building. We really enjoyed her coming and she was impressed enough that she says she will be back. She bought a lot of chances, and she won the quilt. We have had that happen before in someone buying a lot and then someone who bought one ticket won the quilt. We have already started on the quilt for this year.
We met at our building in January and made plans for our year. One of the things we always do in January is elect officers. Actually, the ones we had were doing such a good job, so we just reelected them.
Our meeting was called to order by our president, Virginia Murphree. The first thing we do is have devotion and prayer.
Anyone who knows me knows that I quit making resolutions on New Year’s many years ago. Several excuses, but the main one is that I never got around to doing them. I have a plaque on the window sill above my sink that could keep me busy for a long time. It says “Live a life that people who know you and don’t know God, will come to know God because they know you.” I’m so far behind in trying to fulfill that resolution, that I will still be working on it until our next Christmas and maybe longer.
It is kinda like what we call the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” or could it be, “Love your enemies and pray for those that despitefully use you.” Maybe it’s the one where He tells us, “Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself.” This scripture says that is the whole law and if we fulfill that, we have pleased God, our Father.
This should be the goal of our lives, pleasing God. Paul said, “I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, and now there is a crown laid up for me that the Lord promised.”
Our fruit baskets this month were sent to Carol Turner, Clarence Pittman, Daniel Pittman and Tommy Pittman. These were sent to families that had a death in their lives. We want them to know that we are praying for God to give them comfort that we can’t understand, but just accept and know that it is true.
Then we settled down to refreshments and just visiting.
