Christian love and sympathy to the Katie Jo Walton Boone family of Grenada. Katie was born and raised in Tillatoba and was a graduate of Oakland High School.
Christian love and sympathy to another Tillatobian, JA Hoop of Grenada, who passed away Monday morning, June 3. JA was also a graduate of Oakland High School and a classmate of Katie Jo’s. My love goes out to Joe Boone and to Mary Ann Hoop.
Sheila O’Bryant drove to Indianapolis to visit with her brother, Ed. Sheila was excited that she drove all that way by herself.
What a wonderful surprise visit I had last Saturday afternoon from Maxine Tellis of Grenada. Maxine and I worked at the Griffis All American Restaurant together. She had been to her 1974-75 Coffeeville class reunion. She also visited her sister, Georgia Tellis, while in Tillatoba.
A time of remembrance was held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service for Richard McClure of Tillatoba. Family and friends were welcomed to come and share stories and special memories of Richard during this time. Richard’s mother, Rose Brown, lived in Tillatoba for years but moved to Grenada with her daughter after becoming ill.
Martha Box enjoyed a great service at Tillatoba Baptist Church last Sunday. She said there was a great word and spirit from Pastor Harris and that it was wonderful to visit with neighbors and friends.
Prayers for Jesse Wortham’s Jodi. She was hospitalized for a few days and is now recuperating at home under Jesse’s care.
Martha has also been enjoying the cool mornings with coffee on the porch, repotting plants and working her “itty bitty garden.” She said she should have a tomato sandwich in a week.
Martha attended a great service at Pine Grove Baptist Church Sunday morning. She said Bro. Truman Scarborough gave a real thought-provoking message on “Devilish Deception.”
Bobby McClanahan is healing and working well to do so. Wonderful news, Bobby Joe!
Kenny Dunning took Bobby Joe McClanahan for his doctor appointments in Jackson on Thursday and, thank the good Lord, he got good reports from both doctors.
Wanda Crawford is still in the swing bed unit in Charleston for another week.
My sweet sister, Ann Hudson of Grenada, stopped by for a visit Saturday afternoon after attending the funeral for Romona Pryor Beardain in Batesville. Romona was such a precious lifelong friend. We were Oakland High School graduates. Also visiting us this past week was Mark Hartley. Mark caught me up on some news about some of the sick people we both know.
Also visiting last week was daughter, Donna. She is dog sitting this week and took a break and came up to check on us. We ate sandwiches for lunch and watermelon for dessert.
Shelia Jackson has broken the top of her toes again! Same foot, different toes! She will have to wear the boot two more weeks.
Happy birthday to Stacey Langham and Bo Williamson on the 11th; to Hadley Rye on the 12th; to Alice Beverly McBride on the 13th; and to Lila Myrick, Bro. Rickey Harris and Allison Dukes, who share a birthday on the 14th. I pray you all have a blessed day!
Recipe for the week: Delicious Pound Cake
1 pound butter
2 cups sugar
6 eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 (14 ounce) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Add extract. Add flour and mix thoroughly.
Add Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk and combine with batter.
Bake at 300°F, approximately 1½ hours or until done.
