Christian love and sympathy to the Sykes Wood family of Grenada. I met Sykes and his wife, Janie, back in the early sixties. They were close friends to my sisters, Ann Hudson and Joyce Weir. They were easy people to love and had two beautiful daughters, Anita Jo Byrd and Leta Wood.
It seems my neighbor, JR Dukes, had a great weekend at Enid Lake. The crappie were biting pretty good Saturday.
Jordanna Twilley of Nashville spent the past week with her grandmother and aunt and uncle, Zell, Shannon and Frank Manzo. She went home Sunday. Shannon said the heart doctor in Oxford changed Zell’s meds to get her blood pressure regulated. Praying for you, Zell.
Martha Box says she finally got over a few stresses this past week and made it to church! She said her cuz, pastor of Willow Springs Assembly of God, was happy to see her but all he could talk about was reading about her in this column.
“Good news is I’m still up and at ’em, Jesus is still our savior, and Bro. Tommy preached a great, much needed message regarding salvation,” said Martha. “Let’s stay in prayer for our country and leadership. Also, remember Bobby McClanahan for a great healing.”
Martha met with daughter Ginger and Phil for supper at 333 Restaurant Saturday night.
Friday was Tommy McCool’s birthday and a cookout was planned for him after church Sunday, said his wife Deborah, but he had someone to quit Saturday so he had to work Sunday. Deborah said they went ahead and cooked out, and he got home shortly after it was ready. Their granddaughter, Hannah, and her boyfriend came up after church and got to eat before she had to go to work at Spencer’s. All in all, it was a good day and everyone enjoyed the meal.
Ginger Box said not much was going on around her place. They did enjoy hearing Josh Harrison and Braden Sprayberry sing and play an acoustic set at 333 Restaurant Saturday night. Turns out, it’s the last set they will do at 333, as the restaurant closed down on Sunday.
It was quiet around my house Sunday with the daughter, Donna, being in Georgia for a few days visiting with her daughter, Miranda, and Summer Procella. Brad and Frankie Holliday and son, Bradley, also made the trip down and enjoyed a day Saturday at the water park. They all loaded up around lunchtime Sunday and went back to Grenada. Donna called me a little after 7 saying they got home at 6 p.m. and she had already turned those covers back.
Thanks, Bobby Ray Jackson, for the bag of cut-up watermelon you brought Sunday and thanks to grandson Junior Dukes for coming Sunday and helping granddaddy.
Happy birthday to Martha Box, Sandra Anderson, Patti Ramage and Ernie Holliday, who celebrated July 24; to Sadie Harper on the 26th; to Malenda Meacham and Savanna Nobles on the 27th; to Kenny Parker the 28th; to Chris McCool and my sweet husband, David Deck, who celebrate the 29th; and to John Luke Rose, who closes out July birthdays on the 31st. I pray you all have a blessed birthday.
