Love and sympathy to the Joy Calder Walton family. Mrs. Alvia Joy Calder Robinson Walton, 73, of Tillatoba, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Baptist Hospital in Oxford. Joy was laid to rest at the Union Cemetery in Tillatoba.
Our surprise visitors this week were our friend, Elizabeth McKinney, and her son Jordan. Liz and Jordan have moved from Gore Springs to Brazil. It was so good seeing Jordan again. I have loved him since he was a little boy.
Martha Box said she stayed in most of the weekdays and did not get much work done. She enjoyed a couple of cool mornings with coffee on the porch, listening to nature and hummingbirds. She had brother Jesse and the boys over for biscuits and tomato gravy Saturday morning and enjoyed supper with sister Joyce at the Catfish Hut Saturday night. She had a wonderful family birthday meal at her house for daughter Candy’s baby, Lilly. They had such a good time, and it was so great to have the whole family together with such good food and fun, Martha added.
We enjoyed another surprise visit Saturday afternoon from Alan and Janie McMillian of Hernando. It was so good to see them. Alan had lost some weight since his heart surgery but is looking good and doing great now.
Those attending the birthday party for Haven Rose Dukes Saturday were Tommy and Lisa Havens; Tommy’s sister Brenda Stroup; Diane, Terri, Bubba, JR, Junior, Kathy and Connor Dukes; Logan Rose, Sam and Anna Pullen and children, Andrew and Jo; Kat Benson, Tim and Scottie Little; Ethon and Coy Havens and David and Pat Deck. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the fun house, I call them, and some of the grown-ups were sliding down the slide. Waylon and Holly did a fantastic job of entertaining everyone. The hamburgers, hot dogs and birthday cake were good!
Ginger Harrison said they had a good day Sunday. Son Josh sang and played his guitar in church. He did a great job on “I Saw the Light.” They had a great lunch with Diane Hill, then celebrated Lilly Whitaker’s birthday at mama’s Sunday evening. They had a great time visiting. Candy Box made a really good peach cobbler that Lilly, her daughter, had requested. Josh then headed back to college.
Thank you to my sweet daughter, Donna, for coming and putting up okra for us. Now I can have some for my soup this winter!
Belated happy birthday wishes to Chuck Hathcock on the 27th and Louise Gaither on the 28th. Happy birthday to Ann Kirk and Johnny Jackson on the 29th and Chad Eskridge on the 30th. In September, Elena Young and Tommy Parker celebrate on the 1st; Jack Bowman and Annette Ford on the 2nd; and Susan Howe on the 3rd. I hope all of you have a blessed day!
Recipe of the week:
“Miracle Cookies”
1 cup peanut butter, crunchy or smooth
1 cup sugar
One egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons water
Combine peanut butter and sugar. Mix well. Stir in beaten egg, water and vanilla. Roll into 3/4-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with a flat word for work. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes, then cool before removing from cookie sheet.
Thought for the day: Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy. Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.
