My news this week is, I have another great-grandson! We are so excited and can’t stop looking at his first picture. Waylon Dalton Dukes Jr. was born Monday morning, Sept. 23, and weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce. Mother Holly and daddy Waylon are super excited, as is the baby’s big sister, Haven Rose. Thank you, Jesus, for being so good. I’m sure y’all will be hearing more about this wonderful and blessed event!
Tillatoba Baptist Church Harvest Festival is Saturday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The hayride is at 6. There will be a cakewalk, games, hayride, chili cookoff and food. It is open to everyone.
Reminder, ladies, they need items for the cakewalk for the fall fest on Oct. 5 at Tillatoba Baptist Church. They can be dropped off Friday evening or just about any time Saturday before the event.
Faye Hartley went to her grandson Rowland Hartley’s football game last Thursday night at Clarksdale and then to baseball games in Grenada.
After my doctor appointment last Wednesday in Grenada, David and I visited daughter Donna Garripoli. She was working on her lawn mower.
“Happy birthday to our mama,” said Gina Vick Bray and Malenda Harris Meacham. They all got together in her honor at Tillatoba Saturday, Sept. 21. After spending time there, they had lunch at Cracker Barrel. I know she is smiling big! We miss her more than words! It was a lovely time together celebrating their amazing Hannah Jane! Those visiting the old home place were Richard and Dr. Gina Bray and girls, Rachel and Katie Bray of Southaven, and Dr. Rob and Malenda Meacham and children, Hayden and Hannah Meacham of Hernando.
Sunday, daughter Donna and granddaughter Frankie came and brought lunch and did some cleaning. Thank you, girls! It was much appreciated. After homecoming services, sister Ann Hudson of Grenada stopped by for a visit. I love visiting with my sweet sister.
There is nothing going on, said Deborah McCool. She said Tommy is still working too much. They enjoyed the good crowd at Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday for homecoming. Deborah said Dusty McKibben did a great job with music and the preacher was good. “Lots of food, of course, but I skipped the eating. Still not much of an appetite,” Deborah said. Everyone seemed to really enjoy everything. Deborah’s youngest daughter, Kimberly Beavers, has a birthday coming up next week. She is going to be 40 on the 4th. “Can’t believe my babies are so old, making me get old,” Deborah noted.
Belated happy birthday to Blake Sides Robinson, Bubba Howe, Sue Weir and Jenny Lou Chambers on the 24th and to Don Bowman on the 25th. Happy birthday to Bobby Joe McClanahan on the 27th, to Karol Knowles the 28th, to George Biddle and Sandy Beavers on the 29th, and to Rina Chaney and Kay Bridges on the 30th. I pray you all have a great day of celebrating.
Martha Box said she has no real exciting news this week. “Just getting over the last few weeks. Not easy for a wore-out 59 and holding ole gal,” Martha noted. She had to skip church due to a cold, but she was “alive and well” Monday morning with just a bit of a headache.
Recipe for the week: No-Bake Lemon Icebox Pie
1 (9-inch) graham cracker crust
8 oz. cream cheese (room temperature)
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
½ cup fresh lemon juice
Zest of two lemons
Whipped cream or Cool Whip for the top
Whip the cream cheese until it’s soft and lump-free. Scrape the bowl as needed.
Mix the filling. Add the sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and zest, and stir until combined.
Pour and chill. Pour the lemon filling into the crust, smooth it with a spatula, then pop it in the fridge for at least 8 hours (overnight is best).
When set, add some whipped cream (or Cool Whip), slice, serve and enjoy!
