Love and condolences to the family of James Harold Nail. A memorial service was held at Tillatoba Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. for James.
It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Lucille Gardner (Lukie) Grant of Jackson, born in Gulfport, who passed away Aug. 29 at the age of 98. Lucille told her daughter she wanted to live to 100 so she would be a hero. Her daughter told her she was a hero!
She was loved and cherished by many people including her parents, William Henry Gardner, Jr. and Ida L. Gardner; her husband, David Ruff Grant; and her children, Lucille Olivia, Sarah Perkins (John) of Ridgeland, Olivia Mahon (Jerry) of Marietta, Georgia, and David Grant, Jr. (Lynn) of Brentwood, Tennessee. She was also cherished by eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and countless friends.
A celebration of life was held on Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church.
Her deceased husband, David Grant, was a very prominent and beloved pastor. Bro. Grant, as a student, pastored Tillatoba, Scobey and Wayside Baptist churches back in the early 40s. He married the love of his life, Lucille, and moved her to South Mississippi where he pastored Broadmoor Baptist churches in Jackson and Brandon.
Great-grandson, Bradley Holliday, is starting out fourth grade with a bang! Each week the school has friendly competitions and this week Bradley’s class “captured the flag” by having the most Accelerated Reading points last week! They also participated in a weekly math test as a classroom and received a 95%, also earning them the title of “Math Experts!” Way to go! Keep it up!
The Jackson family reunion will be Saturday, Sept. 24, at Enid Church of Christ. Eating at noon. Patti Rowland will provide the meat, paper products and Kool-Aid. Others, please bring side dishes, desserts, bread and other drinks.
The World Catfish Festival was voted an “M List Favorite” in the Mississippi Magazine Best Spring Festival category! Which means you’ll find us listed in the September issue of Mississippi Magazine as one of the best in the state! Emily Tillman Donovan says, “I’ve gotta give so much credit to my DREAM TEAM of a committee! We’re aiming for the top spot next!”
It was told to Emily several times how amazing she and her Dream Team deserve so much more than just credit for turning it around in one year. You really did the impossible! Emily always gets the job done and does it well.
David had a good visit from Greg Lukcus this week. When I woke up from my nap and he told me Greg had been here and he didn’t wake me, well, it wasn’t pretty. He knows I love our few and far between visits from Greg.
Great-granddaughter Haven Rose Dukes had a cousins birthday party at the home of her mommy and daddy, Holly and Waylon Dukes, Saturday, Aug. 27, celebrating her second birthday, which was the 26th. The little ones had fun playing and the grown-ups fun visiting. Those attending were great uncle Bubba and cousin JR Dukes, aunt Terri Pullen, grandmother Diane Dukes, cousins Sam, Anna and sweet Joanna Pullen, grandparents Lisa (Tre Tre) and PaPa Havens, uncle Ehron and his son Cory Havens and her uncle Junior Dukes. Diane said they visited for a while and Lisa and Terri came up with a good idea to have Thanksgiving together. I hate David and I missed it but I had gotten too hot at grandson Brewer Deck’s ballgame that day and had to go to bed.
Tacos, chips and drinks were served. Haven Rose had her own lil special cake for herself and then the big cake came and it was delicious, so everybody said. It was good fellowship and visiting time with the family. Haven got a lot of gifts. Haven, Joanna and Cory really enjoyed playing with each other.
Happy birthday to Emily Tillman Donovan and Nancy Kirk on the 8th, David Robinson and Melissa McLendon on the 9th and Jimmy Dukes the 10th. I pray you all have a great day celebrating!
