We are well into the second week of January. I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw on Facebook where someone had told the days left until Christmas. Time really does pass faster as we get older. Not really, but it certainly does seem like it.
Little miss Joanna Pullen, who turned 1 year old Jan. 11, had her first birthday party Saturday at “Jolly Jumpers” in Grenada. They said the pizza was delicious as well as the cake. She had a lot of family members helping her celebrate. She had four great grandmothers attending. I know there was a lot of passing the baby around at her party!
Another sweet lil girl, Kylie Grace Ballard, celebrated her first birthday Sunday, Jan. 9.
John and Ethan Dukes went to Tupelo Sunday to attend church services with Kristen Minich and her daughter, Bella.
J.R Dukes went to Counce, Tennessee, over the weekend to attend a fishing tournament at Pickwick Lake.
Bobby Joe McClanaham visited Saturday afternoon and brought some deer sausage. We will certainly enjoy that with some hot buttermilk biscuits and some cream gravy. Thank you, Bobby Joe!
Martha Box said the good news is much less pain in her knee and a greater walk the past two days. Praising the healer. She said Sunday was a great church visit with her cousin, Tommy Darby, who preached a spirit-filled message of truth. Martha always loves to see all at Willow Springs Assembly of God. She loves visiting there because most are cousins, nephews, nieces, etc., and the singing is so good and spirit-filled. Said she hoped they didn’t hear her off-key singing.
Doris Hoop is home and doing better after having her hip surgery redone. Doris has been in a lot of pain, but, hopefully, she will soon be on the road to recovery.
Amanda Hailey has been having a lot of trouble with her foot. After seeing a doctor, he told her it was her tendons and joints causing so much pain. They will put her in a corrective shoe to help with the pain.
Belated happy birthday on the 9th to one of our star basketball players of Oakland High, Hazel Simmons Harris. Most of the time, back in the fifties, Hazel was unstoppable and the oncoming visiting players dreaded playing against her. She was that good and Hazel had several siblings that were almost as good.
Happy birthday to Roble Tuberville and Kim Ayers on the 10th; to Bubba Hollis on the 12th; to Max Lindsey, Deborah Sanders and Keri Harris, who share a birthday on the 15th; to Trevor Cory and Rachel Harper McCaulla, share a birthday on the 16th; to Jeri Lyn Prigmore and Cindy Traywick Blanton on the 17th; and to Linda Darby, who celebrates the 18th. May you all have a great day celebrating your birthday!
Eugene and Peggy Bailey are still nursing the COVID. Eugene has pneumonia also. Peggy said she is lonesome over there with no company being able to come and visit them.
My recipe for this week: Caramel Apple Cobbler
Box of yellow cake mix
2 cans apple pie filling
1 jar of caramel
1 stick of butter
Butter a 9x13 pan. Add your apple pie filling on top. Add dry cake mix, then drizzle caramel over the cake mix. Pour one stick of melted butter over it all. Bake in a 350-degree preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Thought for the day: Nothing is more annoying than to have someone repeat word for word what you shouldn’t have said in the first place.
