What a surprise was waiting for me outside when I woke up Sunday morning: SNOW! I dearly love watching it snow but it was just about over when I woke up. I opened the door to look out and the wind whipped around my legs and it didn’t take me as long to get back in the house as it did to get outside!
John Luke Rose calls his grandmother, Diane Dukes, “Kuka Baby.” He told all about his Christmas gifts she had gotten him and how he liked them.
Ethan Dukes, son of John Dukes, went to Oxford to visit with family members and had a good time.
Anna Pullen and daughter Joanna visited with grandparents, Billy and Nancy Chambers, Saturday morning in Grenada. They all had a good time.
J.R. Dukes went to Pickensville, Alabama, Friday for a fishing tournament and has plans to go this week to Lake Washington for another tournament in Glen Allan, Miss. He is giving that new boat a good workout! Good luck on your upcoming tournament, JR.
Visiting with Jessie Williams Sunday were her daughters, Julia Kerr and Sandra McCulla of Grenada. When I asked what they were cooking up, Julia said they were watching cooking shows on television instead of cooking.
Peggy Bailey called me Sunday afternoon and said they are still sick. She said as soon as they check OK, she is going to throw Erik a big birthday party. I think he’s kinda been worrying her to have his party. Out of thirty-something years, she hasn’t missed one yet, Erik.

Your writer had to go to Oxford for another shot in my eye Monday morning. While waiting to get my shot, I got a message telling me that Sherry Traywick Hyde had gone into renal failure and the family had been called to come. Please lift up Sherry and this family in your prayers.
Recipe for the week: Congo Bars
2/3 cup butter
1 pound light brown sugar
3 beaten eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts
1 package chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter, add sugar and cool. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. In separate bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add to sugar butter mixture. Mix in nuts and chocolate chips. Bake in greased 13-by-9 inch pan for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and cut in bars.
