Love and sympathy to the William Russell (Will) Hartley family of Grenada. Will, 18, passed away Saturday, March 4. He leaves his parents, Garrett and Karen Sims Hartley; a brother, Hayes Hartley; grandparents, David and Sherrye Hartley of Grenada and Margaret Sims of Marietta, Georgia; and a host of family and friends to mourn his death. His granddaddy, David Hartley, and great-grandparents, the late Russell and Bebe Hartley, were residents of Tillatoba at one time.
Emily Tillman is excited to announce that on April 28 she will be the guest speaker at Taste of Vicksburg at the Vicksburg Convention Center. Emily says come learn about Vicksburg’s and Mississippi’s impact on music history. Emily knows all about music. Cuz, I am proud of you!
David and I visited my sister Ann and brother-in-love, Tommy Hudson, one morning last week. Tommy was sitting out by the carport in his favorite chair soaking up some sun. David and I hopped up in his golf cart and we had a nice little visit before I went in and visited with, Ann. We also stopped by and visited daughter Donna Garripoli and granddaughter Miranda Procella to check out some of their “Mad Wood” work. Awesome job you girls are doing!
Martha Box had another great week and I admire her for walking almost daily, even when she gets caught in the rain, as she did the other day. She also had a little mishap the other day walking at the lake. A gust of wind blew her shirt over her head and before she could get it secured, she noticed about 16 men working about the dam eyeballing her! Tuesday evening, she was at Square Market listening to picking and singing and visiting with friends.
Martha has had busy days landing for coffee breaks with her son, Ben Box, and friends, lunch at Spencer’s with grandson Josh Harrison and Saturday, a visit from her so grown handsome grandboy, Jake Harrison. Sunday, she had a great visit at Tillatoba Baptist Church, where she said Bro. Ricky gave a wonderful message after spirit-filled singing, and all this followed by a good supper at her house with daughter Candy Box, Addie, Rissa and Rodney. The cook was Candy and it was great, Martha added.
Happy birthday to John Walton, who celebrated the 5th; Cheyanne Anderson on the 6th; Callie Hoop Edwards and Larry Cockerel on the 9th; and Brian Bowman, Eddie Simmons and JR Dukes, who share one on the 13th. I hope you all have a great and blessed day.
On Friday, March 3, David and I had to go to the eye clinic in Oxford for my shots. While waiting to be called back, I started up a conversation with the lady next to me and it was Cathy Little from Paynes. Cathy was there with her mother. Cathy said she, her mother and several kin lived on a hill in Paynes. I bet I write everything down next time so I can remember more of what she said.
Sunday afternoon, Donna, Miranda, Brad, Frankie and Bradley Holliday came up for a visit and to hang my new swing Donna had made for me. Miranda, Donna and Brad put the hardware on and got it hung. I put on the cushions Donna had given me and was so anxious to get in the swing that I didn’t tie them in. Well, guess what, I slid out of the swing and it came back and knocked me for a loop. Took three people to get me up off the wet ground! Hit me across my back and the back of my head! I took an Aleve and went to bed after everyone left. I was still sore Monday but feeling much better!
John Walton had a nice birthday Sunday at the Pizza Inn in Grenada with some of his family. His wife Virginia, brother Ezra Walton, sister Rina Chaney, daughter Daisy and husband David Burlison, and son John Walton and his children. I know they had a great time helping John celebrate his 63rd birthday!
Recipe for the week: ”Marshmallow Fudge Cookies.”
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Sift together 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Stir in 2/3 cup of cocoa, set aside. In a large bowl, cream one cup of softened margarine with one cup sugar and 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add two eggs and one teaspoon vanilla, stir well. Add flour mixture, stir well. Place two miniature marshmallows inside a rounded teaspoon of dough, seal well. Roll in granulated sugar and place on greased baking sheet. Bake 5 to 7 minutes until cookies crack. Cool on pan 2 minutes.
Thought for the day: It isn’t hard to make a mountain out of a molehill. Just add a little dirt.
