JR Dukes and his fishing partner, Ethan Taylor, managed to get the win on a tough Moon Lake Club tournament with 30-plus boats Saturday. JR thinks they had 13.55 pounds. He said it was a miserable day on the water out in the heat. I can imagine. I can’t even sit on my front porch in this heat. I think they cooled off some in Oxford that night celebrating their win!
Prayers for the young man who wrecked his four-wheeler a few yards up from our house late Saturday afternoon. I woke up from my afternoon nap and cop cars were parked in front of my house. It was later learned that a wheel had fallen off of the four-wheeler. The ambulance came and picked him up. I pray he wasn’t hurt too bad. Someone said he was from Cascilla.
Martha Box said it’s “Hotter than Dixey and hotter than the lizard trying to cross the desert sand. 105 in the shade Hot!” She said when the rain came the other day, she ran out and played, danced and sang in the rain! That’s a good feeling, I’ve done that myself a time or two, Martha!
Martha heard a wonderful, loving teaching message by Bro. Darby Sunday, with strong encouraging words for all to work and pray, for all to receive salvation. “To teach how to obtain Heaven instead of Hell for a forever home. Touching message and wonderful singing,” Martha added. Later, Martha went to Kristie Hartley’s bridal shower for a few minutes. She was absolutely beautiful, as were her friends. So great to see everyone there, Martha said. Finally, Martha said, “Here I sit in recliner, feet up saying, ‘Bring on the rain, please, and let me play again!’” Don’t break a hip playing, Martha!
Deborah McCool says there is not much going on. Last week was work and home. Deborah said they are going to have a birthday dinner for daddy, Ray Bell, on Sunday the 13th. His birthday is on the 14th, and he will be 89. Deborah said they are planning on cooking him a big pot roast and all the extras to go with it. Michael Merrill, his grandson, and his family will be bringing his favorite chocolate pie for him. That’s my favorite too, Ray.
Saturday, we had to go to town for groceries and decided to run on down and visit daughter Donna and great-grandson Bradley. Bradley had been out playing catch, or should I say fetch, with his new dog, Jack. Jack is six months old now, but when he’s grown, he will stand tall.
Sunday, Phil and Ginger Box had an exciting day in Jackson at the old capital building where Josh Harrison was awarded the Bronze Congressional Medal. He is a hard-working young man and we are very proud of him, said Ginger, who noted they have been real busy preparing both Jake and Josh to move into dorms this week. It’s gonna be real quiet at your house next week, and it’s gonna take you a while before you learn to cook for two, Ginger.
My daughter, Donna, came Sunday and brought a massager to use for my back. Then the lights went out. I wanted so bad to attend Kristie Hartley’s bridal shower but there was no way possible. I heard she had a wonderful shower with a big attendance in spite of the weather.
Week before last, Diane Dukes, along with son John and Kathy Dukes and granddaughter, Roseann, and Jake Rose and sons, John Luke and Logan, went to Gatlinburg and stayed five days. Diane said she needed that trip and they all had a good time. She said the car was packed coming home. I told her she needs to rent a U-Haul when she gets ready to leave Gatlinburg. She bought a coffee table and two end tables that have a cabin and deer etched on them.
Friday morning, Diane’s double carport got blown away. Her grandson, JR, was there with her. I think it scared her pretty bad. She said she thought about the movie, “The Wizard of Oz,” when she saw it blowing in the wind!
Doris Hoop went to the doctor in Jackson and he said she is doing fine from her hip surgery and to come back in three months. Wonderful, Doris!
Happy anniversary to Gene and Lillian Standridge on the 13th and happy anniversary to Jackie and Don Bowman on the 14th. May you two sweet couples have many more years to celebrate!

Thought for the day: No man ever really finds out what he believes in until he begins to instruct his children.
