Danny Tillman, 56-year-old son of the late Louis Robert Tillman, was found after being missing for several days. He was reported missing on July 30. Family and friends prayed for his safe return home. Danny, a lifelong resident of the Greenville-Wayside area, was a diabetic and had heart problems. Hours turned into days of searching for Danny with the hope of finding him still alive, but the nightmares came true when Danny was found deceased on Aug. 8. Reasons for his death are still unclear. His family and friends meant the world to him, and he had a heart of gold. He would give anyone the shirt off of his back even on his worst day. Danny had an unbelievable sense of humor and enjoyed the simple things in life. His smile could brighten anyone’s day. RIP, my sweet nephew.
On Saturday morning, sister Ann Hudson and I went to our annual Oakland School reunion, which was held at the Fishery at Enid. It was a beautiful day and there was a great turnout with table after table of delicious food, most of it homemade. Needless to say, supper was light for me that night! We got to visit with so many that we only see once a year. Only two in my class of ’59 showed up, and that was yours truly and Donnie Toole. Donnie said Ben Toole was there but left before it started. Ann and I went by and visited a while with Wendell Carvan after it was over. It was so good to see him. He is always such a great host and makes you feel welcomed. Thanks, Wendell.
Martha Box had an eye appointment Monday morning for a checkup after her cataract operation last Monday morning. I hope you got a good report!
Too dadgum hot to work, Martha said. She did have a great time visiting with friends at Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday. She said Bro. Harris preached such a spirit-filled message and encouraged others to read, study and follow God’s Word, for “Heaven is our goal!”
Congratulations to all the young men getting ready to start their first college classes. Josh Harrison got moved in with the help of his parents, Phil and Ginger Harrison, and Grayson Allbritton moved to MSU Saturday, Aug. 12 with the help of his mother, JoJo McClanahan, and his sister, Emily Little. Grayson will be studying mechanical engineering and his classes began Aug. 16.
My sweet friend, Darlene Moorman says, “nothing going on over here, but thank the Lord all is well.”
Daughter Donna and sweet great-grandson Bradley Holliday visited Sunday afternoon. He’s up big enough now that “O’ma” has to ask for my hugs. When he was little, he would head straight for me, but not anymore. He collects little knives and I had found a little one while cleaning last week. He has them all in a box and takes good care of them. He’s not allowed to carry one around yet.
Well, it was an emotional weekend for sure for Phil and Ginger Harrison, even though they are both very excited for the boys and know they will do great. Jake did get to come home and we had Sunday lunch with Diane Hill. After Jake headed back to Cleveland, Phil and Ginger had a nice visit with Moma, Martha Box. Ginger did wake her up from her Sunday afternoon nap. Oops. I guess Superwoman gets tired, too!
Jake Rose had eye surgery in Memphis recently. I hope they helped you, Jake.
I went back for injections in both eyes last week and was blinded for almost a day. It scared me so bad. It started clearing up, but things are a little fuzzy like a glaze over my eyes.
Deborah McCool had just gone to her daddy’s with the food for his birthday dinner. She cooked a big pot roast and Michael Merrill, Ray Bell’s grandson, and family were bringing food to go with it. They even had a big banana pudding fixed. Tommy, Deborah’s husband, had stayed home because of sickness and Jason Beavers was with him. Kimberly Beavers and girls, as well as Allison Dukes, came to daddy’s. Angela and son, PJ Dukes, have both been suffering with head colds, so they stayed home. Angela is doing better, doing therapy and working remotely from home for work since her heart attack.
Deborah said Tommy called saying he needed to go back to the ER. She told everyone to enjoy the meal and she left to take him to the ER. Monday afternoon after she gets off work, they are going to her daddy's again with a birthday cake and ice cream because it is his 89th birthday.
Happy birthday to Sherry Anderson and Will Tillman on the 16th; to Marilyn Lawson on the 18th; to Rose Ann Rose on the 20th; to Scotty Chambers on the 22nd; to Benny Walker, Lilly Whitaker, Philip Bell and Geneva Kelly, who share a birthday on the 23rd; and to Annette Corley, Pat Brooks and Heath Crawford on the 24th. May you all have a blessed birthday
Recipe of the week: English pea casserole
One can cream of mushroom soup
One can asparagus, drained
Three hard-boiled eggs, chopped
One can English peas, drained
1 cup grated cheese
Mix all ingredients and bake in microwave until hot and bubbly. So good!
Thought for the day: Living would be easier if men showed as much patience at home as they do when they’re fishing.
