Sunday was a wonderful day for me. Donna came up and helped me make my orange slice cake and it turned out perfect. I remember the one I made last year and it fell apart. Not a drop was left though! She did a little house cleaning before she left! Thank you, Donna!
My big surprise was my longtime friend, Liz McKinney, stopped by for a visit. Liz has moved to Gore Springs from Lumberton and she promised she would visit more often. I’m going to hold you to that, Lizzy.
Ruth Jane, Festus and Amanda Hailey attended the Christmas parade Saturday night and they enjoyed it.
Martha Box says I can catch her when she is so tied up: “I was in the floor lifting up the recliner I just flipped over just to clean house! Thank Heavens my lifters still work. Muscles scream, but not as loud as I do during that lift!”
Martha got the tree up Thanksgiving night but that is all the Christmas she has done. “But hey, it is not the world’s birthday anyway,” she said. “And I try to give Jesus a gift every day. Because of the gift He is to us!” Martha had a wonderful visit at Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday. She said the message from Brother Harris was great and she had a wonderful visit with friends and neighbors.
After a long nap, Martha went to a wonderful gathering at Willow Springs Assembly of God. “J.G. Henderson played that violin so well I felt the words to each song,” she said. “I mean, I was at the manger on the night Christ was born!”Martha said she has to get up and get started. “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I am behind,” she said, inviting me over for a Christmas Eve supper of tomato gravy, sausage gravy, fried taters and biscuits. That sounds wonderful, Martha, and thanks for the invite!
Diane Dukes went to Oxford to the doctor Monday morning. Sunday, she and daughter, Terri, went to church and then they shopped around in Oxford and bought gift cards. They had to be back home by 3 so she and daughter-in-law Kathy Dukes could go to Willow Springs church to see John Grayson Henderson. Diane said they saw Nancy Chambers, Anna Pullen, Joanna Pullen, Betty Sue Chambers, Jeanie Lou Chambers and all of the church members there.
“I had a lot of fun talking to old friends and visiting with all the church members I knew and I really enjoyed talking to Vickie Snyder,” said Diane. “Vickie and her children were there. They are all grown now. I told her I was old now, seeing that her children were all grown. We had a good laugh about that.”
Diane said she thought it did her good to get outside and visit instead of staying in the house all the time
Diane’s sister, Ellen Parker, is supposed to come Tuesday from Greenville and stay until Friday or Saturday. Diane said she thinks she’s taking her home Friday so she can have all her presents and things ready to go back with her. “I’m glad Christmas is almost done,” Diane added.
Diane invited me to come see her decorations, especially the tree she decorated for Jimmy, her late husband. “Everybody said I did a really good job, so be sure and come to visit me, she said!”
Darlene Moorman said “Guess what? No more laundry mats, got me a new washing machine Saturday and they are bringing it as we speak! That may not be news to some folks but, boy, it is to me. I have been going to that laundry mat for three months now. My great grandson, Elias Beck, spent the night with me last night.”

Thought for the day: I knew a man who used to sell furniture for a living. The trouble was, it was his own!
