Tillatoba Baptist Church is hosting a Valentine’s Day banquet for couples on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 5:30 p.m. Families and singles are also welcome. The menu will be spaghetti, salad, bread and a dessert.
Son Derek Deck from Cleveland came by Thursday night and visited. He brought us a case of water and a couple boxes of cakes. He was on his way to Oakland to hunt with a friend.
Martha Box said she had not left her house since last Sunday.
Martha said, “Yes, I enjoyed the first day or two piddling about, cooking soup, checking on folks via phone. Within a couple more days I became like a tiger in a small cage.
“By Friday when Bubba came over through the woods, I nearly squeezed him to glory! His little grandboy had walked over Thursday to check on me and get his soup that I cooked,” Martha continued.
“By Saturday as the nephew and family had to walk by to get out to the road, yeah, I was so happy to talk! Phil and Josh came Saturday afternoon to deliver me mail and needs. Well, you know, I grabbed my so tall grand and put that long hug on him.
“Now if this is not exciting news, hopefully I will be out by Tuesday stirring up some more!”
Jesus is the reason we can laugh our way through it all. Yes, He is, Martha!
Darlene Moorman was scheduled to go to the doctor at the pain clinic in Charleston Monday afternoon. Her son, Keith, feels a lot better now, but I think a whole lot more people will feel better after this snow and ice are gone. But I have to say I did enjoy it while it lasted.
Alice Kellum is still in the hospital in Grenada. She will have to go to rehab for a few weeks after she gets out of the hospital.
Deborah McCool said she did not do anything last week. Her workplace in Grenada was closed. She has been sick all week and finally went to the clinic and they told her what she already knew. She has Flu A and has been in bed all week. I think everyone has been or is sick with one thing or the other.
Happy birthday to Lisa Griffis Parker and Lexi Ray Reagan on the 28th, and to Gwen Graham on the 29th. I pray you all have a wonderful day celebrating your birthday.
Love and sympathy to the Robert Hugh Simmons family of Grenada. Robert passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada. Robert was a hard worker and a good friend when we were all young teenagers.
Love and sympathy to the Shirley Ann Wheeler McFerrin family of Charleston. Mrs. McFerrin passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Tallahatchie General Hospital. I didn’t know Mrs. McFerrin, but I know her son, and I will say she must have been a wonderful person to have raised such a fine young man.
Frank and Freda Weir visited the Art Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky, the Amish Bakery and the Diamond Caverns in Scottsville, Kentucky, and the American Pickers in Nashville recently. I know that was a fun trip. I’m hoping David and I can go when we get all un-stoved up.
I talked to Peggy Bailey by phone Monday morning and she sounded like she was feeling much better. She said some of the kids had been there over the weekend. Erik didn’t have school, so he was spending the day with her.
Recipe of the week: Poncho’s Chartreuse Dressing
1/2 cup yellow mustard
1/2 cup sugar or honey
1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup white vinegar
1 tsp. dried oregano
4 green onions, tops only chopped
Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until it’s smooth. That chartreuse green color suddenly happens when it’s done. Store in an airtight jar and put in fridge. This is good on tacos or a taco salad.
Thought for the day: I am at a place in my life when errands are starting to count as going out.
