With all the storms and bad weather last week, beautiful weather was welcomed over the weekend and into early this week.
While sitting out on my front porch, I could hear the lawnmowers going in all directions. It reminded me of the old English proverb saying, “Make hay while the sun shines.”
Emily Tillman Donovan says she sometimes gets into genealogy. Through the research, she found out her seventh great-grandmother was Mary Boone, the sister of Daniel Boone. Wow! That’s neat! Emily is my third cousin. I wonder which side of the family this is on. Could it be mine?
Martha Box said, “again, a fast-moving week. Made it through the stormy days.” She had a great lunch with her sister, Joyce, as they tried to watch the eclipse. It was so cloudy they only saw a bit now and then before the storm took over. When it was about halfway covered, a large group of birds landed in the tree next to them.
Last Saturday, Martha attended a family reunion at Carl and Mildred Kendall's. She said there was so much joy and love to see everyone, and to have been thought of by young ones meant so much.
Martha woke up Sunday morning thanking God for such a beautiful day and made it to church on time. She enjoyed such a beautifully presented message on being the light, letting Jesus’ spirit shine through. The word by Bro. Tommy Darby, intertwined with the powerful, beautiful songs, was spectacular, she said.
On Saturday morning, we had a sweet visit from great-granddaughter, Haven Rose Dukes, and her daddy, our grandson, Waylon. They came riding up on his tractor. She loves riding the tractor.
My sweet friend, Wanda Crawford, fell out of her car. She had been shopping for fish and when she opened the door, her sack turned upside down and her $15 sack of fish spilled out. Wanda said when she grabbed it, she didn’t think about herself, just about her fish. She explained: “I fell on my face, bent my glasses, hurt my wrist and the cat got my fish.” Wanda, look on the bright side, you didn’t have to feed the cat supper that night!
Daughter, Donna Garripoli, and my granddaughter, Miranda Procella, came Monday and brought pizzas for lunch. They are too good to me. While here, they did a little cleaning.
Gloria Marceleno said there was a late birthday get-together for her mother, Mildred Kendall. Her birthday was April 7, and the get-together was Saturday, April 13, with a fish fry starting at 10 a.m. It was at Ma Nichols’ old home place, which is where Gloria’s parents, Carl and Mildred Kendall, live now. Family from Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama were there. She said it was mostly Ma Nichols side of the family: Mildred’s four brothers and a half-sister that married a Wortham. They are mainly what’s left of Ma Nichols and her siblings’ families. The event continued into the afternoon.
Tommy and Deborah McCool spent Friday afternoon and all Saturday cleaning up the big tree that came down in her daddy's yard Wednesday. She said they couldn't have gotten it done if it wasn't for son-in-law Jason and daughter Kimberly Beavers. He worked so hard. Tommy and Debbie went to Batesville for breakfast and then they went to Leland and spent the day with Tommy's sisters. Tommy’s sister, Alice Kellum, went with them and they had a wonderful time.
It was definitely a beautiful weekend, for sure, said Ginger Harrison. She said son Josh did a great job singing in church Sunday. Jake didn’t get to come home for the weekend. They had a fabulous lunch with Diane Hill and enjoyed a visit with her momma, Martha Box, Sunday evening.

Recipe for the week: Four ingredients Lemon Cream Cheese Dump Cake
Ingredients:
1 box lemon cake mix
1 can (20 oz) lemon pie filling
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Pour the lemon cake mix into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Add Lemon Pie Filling by spooning the lemon pie filling over the cake mix, ensuring even distribution.
Cream Cheese Layer:
In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Drop spoonfuls of cream cheese over the lemon pie.
Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the cake evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
