The Oakland Town Holiday Market is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, in downtown Oakland and has some great shopping and activities on schedule. The market is located at 304 Holly Street. (This is the former Presbyterian church next door to the Oakland Library.)
The market will include an art class for children and one for adults by instructor Gay Lynn Haynes. Holiday paintings will be completed and ready to take home. There is a $15 per person charge for the classes. Preregister for these classes by emailing Oaklandtownmarket@gmail.com. Payment will be collected onsite. Every grandparent will treasure a holiday painting as a special Christmas gift! Slots are limited.
The Holiday Market will also include workshops by Mahaley Hames on table décor for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, plus a bonus tablescape for spring.
Vendors will be selling homemade jellies, cakes, cookies and brownies. At least two authors will be in attendance with their books. Nativity scenes, hand-tied fish lures, crocheted scarves, pillows, wreaths, arrangements, hand-painted signs, hand-carved stone crosses, tumblers, mugs and a special line of Oakland Christmas cards, ornaments, kitchen towel, and prints will be available.
Go to Oaklandtownmarket on Facebook to see samples of these and more.
Sheila Jackson had a sleep study at Oxford Tuesday night. Sheila said she didn’t sleep much that night! I know the feeling, Sheila. I don’t think I did either when I had my two. I do know I scared some folks and entertained a few on my way home! I didn’t stay long enough to wash all that gook out of my hair, not realizing how awful it looked. Some laughed when I had to stop at a red light and some looked scared! It wasn’t even Halloween either, so I couldn’t use that for an excuse!
Ronald Love had a heart attack last Tuesday. The doctor put in six stents. One artery was 90% blocked. He is home, weak but doing well. Ronald’s mom was taken to the hospital Sunday night with a possible heart attack. Please pray for Libby Love.
Ginger Harrison is a sweet daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law, Diane Nail Hill. Sunday, the 17th, was her birthday. Ginger said they had a great time celebrating Saturday night. Happy birthday, Diane! I know you had a great time celebrating with your family.
Anna Pullen and daughter Joanna, Anna’s grandmother Nancy Chambers, and Diane Dukes and daughter Terri Dukes had an outing in Batesville Saturday. They had lunch at the Huddle House, saw a lot of friends they knew and enjoyed visiting with them while there. Then Terri and Diane went to Lowe’s to shop for Christmas decorations and, boy, did they find some! After church Sunday, Terri and Diane went to Walmart to pick up groceries and visited with friends Annie Turner and her granddaughter, Chasity Turner, and her children. After Diane and Terri got back to Tillatoba and settled in, her son Dale Dukes visited.
Martha Box said her knee has needed surgery for many years and has screamed at her “fix me!” Since this wore out nurse can’t fix it anymore, she said she is soon to have it done. Martha had a great time at Willow Springs Assembly of God Sunday for Wonderful Pastor Appreciation Day. Most all there are family and friends. Great spirit-filled sharing was done.
Faye Hartley had her birthday lunch at Nathan and Betsy Hartley’s Sunday, Oct. 17. Faye said they had the best lunch and cake ever, thanks to Nathan, Betsy and Kristie. They are great cooks. “I have never eaten so much!” said Faye. Attending were Nathan, Betsy, Kristie, Rowland, Mary Brett, McLendon, Mark and, of course, Faye. Faye thoroughly enjoyed it. Kristie carried Faye to Batesville Saturday for shopping and lunch. Faye said she has had the best weekend.

Thank you, Bobbie Savage, for trying some of my recipes and for the sweet phone call.
My recipe for this week: Orange Balls
1 (12-ounce) package of vanilla wafers, crushed
1 cup confectioner sugar
1/4 cup soft butter, room temperature
1/2 cup frozen orange juice, thawed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
Combine sugar and crumbs, blend in butter. Stir in orange concentrate, add vanilla and nuts. Shape into bite-size balls and shake in plastic bag with additional confectioner sugar. Arrange in single layers and refrigerate uncovered overnight. Roll in coconut, if desired.
Thought for the day: A good scare is often worth more to a person than good advice.
