Communication.
Ever think about how difficult it is to really communicate with someone else, much less a group of people?
Do you find it easier to communicate verbally, in person or in writing? Do you use sketches or drawings to help you communicate with someone or a group? Are you surprised at how often we “miscommunicate” with each other?
As we have watched our youngest granddaughter grow and learn to talk and try to communicate with us, I have enjoyed seeing her progress. Some of her pronunciation is a little off, but she still manages to let us know what she means if both of us take enough time to do it!
For instance, when she was given chocolate, she was amazed. Quickly, she added her word “wocklate” to her often used vocabulary. We sang little songs with her, such as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” Addie began to sing, “Winkle, Winkle, Wittle Star,” and had the tune correct!
Sometimes we had to really listen and take in the context of the words used to understand her. She and I watch Brenda Gant on her cooking videos. Addie loves to watch her and will say when it finishes, “Again!” One episode centered on cooking onions. As the cook demonstrated how to slice them, Addie declared, “Happles!” And would not be persuaded there were onions in the pan. She loves apples, and I can see how she made that mistake.
When she was told we were coming to visit, Addie told her mama, “Poppy will tickle me and we will do the buzzzzzz bee; Nana will play blocks!” She has a lot figured out for 3.
Have you wondered how the God of the universe could communicate with us, His creation? As an English major and trying to communicate in writing, I was fascinated with the idea of God’s communication of His truth to us and our understanding.
He gave us His Word. He inspired the writers to put into words what He wanted us to know. Then, instead of painting a picture, or sending diagrams, or turning the truth in mathematical equations (would that be possible?), He sent His Son to live the truth, show us the truth, tell us the truth, die and rise again in the truth — be the truth!
John Chapter 1 is a beautiful chapter in the Bible. Verse 1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.”
And then verse 14 continues, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
God, the doer of the impossible, made a way to communicate with us through Jesus Christ. Now we just need to respond.
