March awareness is for colon, kidney and multiple myeloma cancer.
The category featuring the dark blue ribbon is for colon cancer. Excluding skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women combined. There will be an estimated 145,000 new cases of colorectal cancer diagnosed this year. One in 20 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime. One in three people are not up to date with their colorectal cancer screening.
The category featuring the orange ribbon represents kidney cancer. Nearly 74,000 cases of Kidney cancer will be diagnosed this year with nearly a two-to-one ratio of men and women. Kidney cancer is very uncommon in people younger than 45. The average age of diagnosis is 64. Other statistical info is available from the American Cancer Society website at www.cancer.org.
The category with the burgundy ribbon represents multiple myeloma cancer awareness. This type of cancer is relatively uncommon in the United States, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed only 0.76%. An estimated 32,100 cases will be diagnosed in the United States this year.
Remember, “Cancer Never Sleeps.”
You may send donations to American Cancer Society Rally for a Cure, P.O. Box 971, Charleston, MS 38921, or call president Brenda Walton-Willis at 662-752-9267.
God promises to give us peace in the midst of life’s storms. When we learn to trust the future to His hands, then we know that we do not need to be anxious and worried about the outcome. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7) God hears our prayers, and we can have confidence that He will answer in the right way.
