SUMNER — On Saturday, March 11, at noon, local ministers and other religious leaders gathered at Bayou Bend Country Club for continued discussions about a unified gospel outreach.
A fellowship breakfast had been held Feb. 4 at Morning Star Church of God in Christ to inaugurate an effort to bridge the gap between denominations, recognizing that unity makes strength.
The March 11 gathering was a follow-up, attended by pastors Cornelius Conley, Joe Martin, Bertram Bailey, R.C. Chambers, elders James Hall and Jackie Jones, minister Winfred Hill, Debra Hall, Arlisa Martin and Elvin and Sabrina Lackey.
“We as a group are looking to build on the foundation that has already been set and to bridge the gap between church and community,” said Conley, pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church west of Charleston.
“Our ultimate objective is to use various outlets for outreach and evangelism,” he continued in an emailed account. “A community prayer revival was in discussion for later this year.”
Conley said anyone interested in “coming on board” may contact him at 662-645-1927 or reach him by Facebook Messenger.
