OAKLAND — The Oakland Lions Club has formed under the sponsorship of the Water Valley Lions Club.
The club will become a stand-alone club when it reaches 20 members.
The Lions Club is an international service organization with more than 46,000 local clubs and 1.4 million members. The stated mission of the organization is to serve communities, give hope and impact lives.
The Oakland Lions Club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Oakland Area Chamber of Commerce office at 304 Holly St., next to the Oakland Public Library. The club invites all interested people to attend and learn more about the activities being planned.
The club recently elected the following officers to lead the fledging organization:
» President, Kelli Beckham
» Secretary, LaTonya Richardson Sayles
» Treasurer, Mack Parker
» Tail Twister/Lion Tamer, A.J. Parker.
“We are currently discussing our community and what options we have as club to make things better and provide assistance where needed,” newly elected president Beckham said.
