A Neighborhood Watch meeting for the Charleston community will be held Thursday, April 4, at 6 p.m., at the CARE building (Charleston Arts Center) in Charleston. The public is invited to attend.
Friday April 5
Recovery center sets grand opening
Charleston Recovery Center, a division of God’s House of Hope, will be having its grand opening on Friday, April 5, at 5 p.m.
“You are invited to come by and see what the Lord has done!” said a spokesperson.
The center is located at 30104 Highway 32, Charleston, MS 38921.
CARE Student Art Show event set
CARE’s Student Art Show reception and awards ceremony will get underway at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the Charleston Arts Center, aka CARE building, in Charleston. Ribbons and cash prizes will be presented to winners in each age category. Refreshments will be provided.
Saturday April 6
Locopolis sets women’s conference
Locopolis Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4947 Highway 32 Central, Charles-ton, will host their inaugural women’s conference on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The theme is “Encouraging Ourselves and Encouraging Each Other,” and the scripture reference is Psalm 94:18-19.
Guest speakers will include evangelist Loretta Bryant, first lady Dr. Bennie Braggs and Charleston Ward 4 Alderwoman Sandy Frieson Smith. A free lunch will be served and health checks will be available, said Tina Thornton, conference sponsor. Rev. Christopher R. Thornton is the Locopolis pastor.

CARE sets Lyn Hardy paint class
A paint class with Lyn Hardy will be held Tuesday, April 9, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Charleston Arts Center, aka CARE building. The cost of the session, $10, covers all supplies. Refreshments will be provided.

Wednesday April 10
St. John to host three-night revival
St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Highway 32, Drew, will conduct a three-night revival from Wednesday, April 10, through Friday, April 12, at 7 o’clock daily.

Saturday April 13
ACS Rally for a Cure to be held
Rally for a Cure, the annual community fundraiser of the Tallahatchie County unit of the American Cancer Society, will be held Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the former National Guard armory in Charleston.
The event will feature a variety of activities, including booths, games and entertainment.
Anyone unable to attend may contribute by mailing donations payable to Rally for a Cure, P.O. Box 917, Charleston, MS 38921.
Cross of Christ sets women’s event
The Cross of Christ Love Center in Charleston will be hosting its annual “Women on a Mission” program on Saturday, April 13, at 4 p.m. “Everyone is invited to please come out and fellowship with us!” said spokesperson Contessa L. Cain.
Children’s activities set at center
The Family Life Center at Calvary Chapel will be open on Saturday, April 13, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for children and youth, grades 1-12.
Admission is free, and any individual or church can bring a group. Visiting groups must bring and provide supervision for their own children.
Soft drinks and condiments are available for a low price.
The center offers basketball, table games, roller skating (a limited number of skates are available, so it is recommended that children bring their own) and an opportunity “to just hang out.”
The church is located at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, seven-tenths of a mile east of Parchman’s front gate, just north of Mississippi 32.
The church is not responsible for accidents.
Terrie Roark Ministry team to sing
On Saturday evening, April 13, the Terrie Roark Ministry team will be singing at the Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy, beginning at 6 p.m.

Terry Randall to minister at church
On Sunday, April 14, Terry Randall of Batesville, Arkansas, will be ministering with a sermon and his special testimony during the morning service at Paducah Wells Church of God of Prophecy. Service will begin at 10.

Calvary Food Chapel, at 36 Ward-Riddick Road, just east of Parchman off Highway 32, will distribute food from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, for those living in the West Tallahatchie area and in Sunflower County outside the city limits of Drew (which has its own food pantry). Avant initiated into Phi Kappa Phi
Madeline Avent of Philipp was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Avent was initiated at Delta State University.
Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership.
GriefShare support group ongoing
GriefShare, a grief recovery support group that began Tuesday, March 12, will conduct weekly sessions each Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Charleston.
GriefShare is a video series that features some of the nation’s foremost Christian experts on grief and recovery topics as seen from a biblical perspective. The video seminars are combined with support group discussion of the materials presented in the video.
These 13-week sessions include topics such as “Is this Normal?” “The Challenges of Grief,” “Grief and Your Relationships,” “Why?”, “Guilt and Anger” and more.
