James Lee Sturdivant won second place in the Halloween costume contest at his school! Congratulations, James Lee!
Mary Brett Hartley is October’s Student of the Month at North Delta School.
Jack Bowman went deer hunting, but instead of killing a deer he cleaned out the coyote population a little bit more! Way to go, Jack! You Tillatoba boys and girls are always making the news! I’m proud of all of you!
Kyle Scott, son of James and Maci McLendon Scott of West Point, got his drivers’ license last week. Seems like yesterday that his mother, little Maci, was driving in her grandmother’s pasture and all you could see was the top of her head. Now her son is driving with a license. Back then, all little Maci had was her “pretend like” license.
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, and Sheryn’s friend, Tracy Hall, visited Sheryn Saturday and they went to the Vardaman Sweet Potato Festival. She said she had never seen so many people. After leaving Vardaman, they came back through Grenada where they went to Walls and then on to eat. Sheryn said she had a very good day but she was on her last leg when they got back home.
Martha Box says she’s still fat and sassy. She said she had no brand-new news, but “still know the real news is, as always, Jesus!”
She has just been working about the house, trying to find that turkey before Santa lands, said Martha. She said every commercial is trying to get our money because “It’s Christmas.”
Martha’s sister, Joyce Stevens, is much better and Martha’s cold is over. She and Joyce ate at Geeslin Corner and it was the best ribeye sandwich ever! They also ate at the Catfish Hut Friday. Talk about getting fat!
Martha said she enjoyed such a beautiful ride to Pine Grove church Sunday, noting that “God’s colors bring out the praises.” She was visiting with daughter, Ginger, Phil and the “grand men.” Martha said Bro. James Caulder led such spirit-lifting music. Jake and Josh sounded so awesome. Jake did a special also that led right into Bro. Scarborough’s message. “And I tell you if there was anyone there that did not know Jesus, they knew Him when it was over!” she concluded.
This past weekend was season-opening weekend for kids who deer hunt, and great-grandson Bradley Holliday went and he got him one! O’Ma is so proud of you, Bradley!
Brianna Nobles had a beautiful baby shower in Grenada last weekend. Brianna had a lot of family and friends attending the baby shower for little Harper, who is home now after spending two months in the hospital in Jackson.
Saturday, Diane Dukes and daughter Terri went to Des Arc, Arkansas, to a Christmas store where they had a lot of pretty things. It was a two-hour and 45-minute drive to get there, but they enjoyed it, laughing and talking about Christmas decorations and old times on the way there.
Diane said she keeps planning her Thanksgiving dinner. She said she won’t have to cook for a month because every day she adds something else to it. Her late husband, Jimmy Dukes, loved Thanksgiving. Diane said he always wanted their kids and grandkids and anybody that wanted to come and they were always welcome, but Christmas was another thing. The more you cooked, the more he wanted — from ambrosia to fudge, cookies, cakes and pies. Diane would always tell him, “Jimmy you’re diabetic and you don’t need all that and they don’t either!”
Saturday was a wonderful day for us. My cousin from Germany, Curt Tillman, and wife Elke, Patsie Tillman of Coffeeville, and Tommy and Ann Hudson and Donna Garripoli of Grenada visited us and we fixed sandwiches and had the trimmings to go with it. Elke had made a delicious African bomb cake and I had made a pineapple upside down cake. It was a great time, and David and I enjoyed it very much. I wish Curt and Elke lived closer so we could visit more often. He tries to come two or three times a year to see his mom.
Ray Bell was taken by ambulance to the hospital Monday morning. Prayers for Ray.
I talked to Peggy Bailey by phone Monday morning. She said her kids were coming to check on her and she had plenty to eat, so she is doing good.
Kathy Dukes went to Biloxi with the School for Comfort last Thursday and came home Sunday. All the managers had to go for the lunchroom in Grenada. By having a comfortable place for students to eat their lunch, they eat more and that helps them do better in their academic work.
I saw where Robby Rikard is in Hagerstown, Maryland, this week teaching driver safety and performance for McElroy Truck Lines. Robby said he would be helping their drivers understand how to make good decisions behind the wheel and in the workplace. Over the next couple of weeks, he will get to meet McElroy drivers from all up and down the East Coast. Robby said he was honored to help make McElroy a safer and more enjoyable place to work. When Robby was a little boy, his dad would bring him in the truck stop to eat and I watched this young man grow up to be a father of two children, a pastor, a truck driver and a driver safety teacher. They had a hunting camp not far from the truck stop. It does my heart good to see young people do good in life.
Happy anniversary to Brent and Tori Bowman on the 12th!
Happy birthday to Chase Swope on the 6th; Clay McFerrin and Sam Pullen on the 9th; Jackson Jerrell on the 10th; Diane Dukes, Rosemary Irby and Harvey Sturdivant on the 11th; Mali Jarrell on the 13th; Marie Rowland and Samantha Irwin Dees on the 14th; and Charlie Brook Bowman, who celebrates the 15th. I pray you all have a wonderful day celebrating.
Thought for the day: I can’t stand people who blame everyone else for their problems. I’d be successful and happy by now if it wasn’t for them.
