Please pray for all school students, especially the little children who are experiencing their first year of big school, teachers, administrators and all faculty that work for the school system. Be kind to each other. If you are riding a bus, respect your bus driver. Your life as well as others is in their hands. Make it easier for them. I pray you all have a great year!
It was a busy weekend starting Friday night with a lot of family enjoying dinner in Grenada. The occasion was first cousin Phillip Tillman’s gathering of family before his book signing Saturday. His two nieces, Connie Tillman Cockerel and Lee Ann Tillman Howe, surprised Phillip with a birthday cake after dinner.
Saturday was the book signing and I met a lot of new people and visited with a lot of old friends. I sat with a new friend, Susan Williams, who writes “Chronicles of Yesteryear” for the Grenada Star. I apologize to you, Susan. I do read your article and have learned a lot that I didn’t know. I will make sure I don’t miss any from now on. I also sat with my friend, Carrie Kerr Rice of Charleston and Martha Box. My sweet sister, Angelena Hudson, joined us as well as David Quirk who drove from Erie, Pennsylvania, to be here. It was also good to see Mona Beardain of Batesville, Patsy Brooks of Water Valley, Joy Mullen of Oakland, Beverly and Walter McBride of Georgia, Clyde Massey Callahan and her beautiful baby girl and so many more.
Sunday, we drove to Grenada for David’s birthday lunch. Daughter Donna Garripoli and granddaughter Miranda Procella had cooked up a feast! It was so delicious, and thanks again! I feel like I have gained 10 pounds and I have a doctors’ appointment the day after all of this feasting. A delicious cake and ice cream before we left coming home!
Oakley Rose Smith was born Tuesday, July 24, at 12:23 p.m. weighing 7.3 pounds. Welcoming their daughter is Hannah and Clinton Smith and big sisters, Ava and Emma.
Belated happy 44th anniversary to Barry and Geneva Kelley on the 26th of July.
Geneva left Sunday going to Oklahoma for her yearly sister’s trip. These girls always have so much fun!
Ginger Harrison said it was a very nice weekend. The band her son, Josh, is in played at a restaurant in Oxford Saturday evening. It was a fun evening and they enjoyed that. All the young men did a great job. This week will be the last week son Jake will work at the internship in Jackson. He has learned a lot and really had a great time. He recorded a few commercials last week and really enjoyed that. Ginger said she enjoyed a nice visit from moma (Martha Box) Sunday evening.
Deborah McCool said it was a busy Sunday. They got up early, went to Batesville and ate breakfast at Hardee’s. Then they drove on up to Senatobia and went to church with son Christopher and family, then went to South-aven and ate at Central BBQ on Getwell Road. It was really good. Deborah said she and Tommy did some shopping in Horn Lake. They stopped by daughter Kimberly’s to visit and then headed home.
Darlene Moorman and son, Keith Beck, went to the Charleston Clinic Monday. Keith was sick with a cold after getting wet at work from washing the floor with water before painting, making sure no dust gets on the car. Darlene went for a six-month checkup. Darlene, I hope all goes well for you and Keith. Darlene’s great-grandson, Elisa Beck, was with her this weekend and those two had a ball. She surprised him with his favorite toy, setting it out for him to find it in front of her TV, where they keep his toys. She said he was so happy over just a truck-trailer pulling a car on it. He played and played with that thing. Pray for Keith, though, because he is coughing really bad.
Sunday afternoon, David and I rode up and visited with great-granddaughter Haven Rose and Holly and Waylon Dukes. Haven Rose and I drew pictures and looked at pictures on my phone and she showed us how fast she can run. Of course, I videotaped most of it. Holly sent us home with a delicious marinaded cucumber salad she had made!
Martha Box said she was tired all week and just rested up at home. She had a great visit at the church with everyone at the Tillman book signing. She has already started reading her book! I am, too, Martha. Martha went by sister Joyce’s to hug that new grandboy then they ate a wonderful meal of fish at Oakland. She took Sunday off from church and slept in. Prayers and worship at home got her up and better, she said. She rode over to visit daughter Ginger, Phil and the boys, then to daughter Candy’s to deliver some things, after which she was beginning to feel a whole lot better.
