TUTWILER — Community members are invited to a gathering on Monday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m. at the Tutwiler Community Education Center (TCEC) to explore the creation of a new Boys & Girls Club in Tutwiler. The meeting will introduce a proposed partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta and TCEC.
The collaboration would represent a significant investment in the youth and families of Tallahatchie, Quitman and Sunflower counties, with a shared vision to provide high-quality after-school and out-of-school programs for youth ages 6–18.
Linda Lee, president of the TCEC board, expressed her enthusiasm.
“This is an exciting moment for our community. The Tutwiler Community Education Center was founded on the belief that our children deserve opportunity, safety and creativity. We look forward to working with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta to explore how we can expand those opportunities for every child in Tutwiler,” Lee noted.
David Dallas, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Delta, added, “For our organization to have a club at TCEC, a place so rooted in service and care, feels like the right step. We are very grateful to be invited into this conversation.”
If the plan moves forward, programming could begin as early as this fall, with a full launch in spring 2026. The planning phase will include listening sessions and collaborative design with local educators, families and youth to ensure the club reflects the community’s unique needs and strengths.
All community members are encouraged to attend the Aug. 11 meeting to share ideas, meet leadership and help shape what a Boys & Girls Club could look like in Tutwiler.
