The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued separate flood warnings for the Tallahatchie River at Locopolis and the Tallahatchie River at Swan Lake.
At Locopolis, minor flooding is forecast from late Saturday night until further notice. At 33.0 feet, flooding is occurring along both banks of the river. The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Sunday morning and continue rising to a crest of 33.5 feet Sunday evening. Flood stage is 33.0 feet.
At Swan Lake, minor flooding is forecast from Sunday afternoon until further notice. At 27.0 feet, farmland flooding is occurring near the river. The river is expected to rise above flood stage early Sunday afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 27.5 feet Tuesday morning. Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
In addition, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday morning for Alcorn, Benton, Coahoma, DeSoto, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tunica and Union counties in North Mississippi. NWS said excessive runoff caused by heavy rainfall may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible.
