Tallahatchie County's varsity football teams are ready to kick off the 2024 season.
The WEST TALLAHATCHIE HIGH SCHOOL CHOCTAWS, who are coming off a 6-5 season that saw head coach Shane Hargett's ballclub wallop Union 40-14 in a home first-round state playoff game, are set to take the field at M.S. Palmer High School in Marks on Friday, Aug. 23. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The Choctaws will play six games on the road this season, opening and closing the campaign with back-to-back away matches.
After the Aug. 23 Palmer game, they have other Friday road contests Aug. 30 at Riverside, Sept. 13 at Coahoma County and Oct. 11 at South Delta, as well as a pair of Thursday night games on Oct. 24 at Simmons and a Halloween matchup Oct. 31 at Leland.
West Tally will host O'Bannon on Sept. 6, cross-county rival Charleston on Sept. 20, McEvans of Shaw for homecoming on Oct. 4, and West Bolivar on Oct. 18.
The Choctaws will enjoy a midseason respite with an open date on Sept. 27.
The CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS, flying high after a 13-2 season that saw them coast through the state playoffs en route to the program's second-ever Mississippi High School Activities Association state championship — the first in Class 2A, and the first for CHS head coach LaDon Taylor — in a 26-22 win over Heidelberg at The University of Mississippi.
The Tigers play five games at home and five on the road in 2024.
CHS opens with consecutive away games Friday, Aug. 30, at Ripley and Sept. 6 at North Panola, followed by a Sept. 20 county bragging rights game at West Tallahatchie in Webb, Oct. 11 at Riverside and Oct. 25 at Northside in Shelby.
The Tigers host Clarksdale on Friday, Sept. 13, Cleveland Central on Sept. 27, Winona on Oct. 4, O'Bannon for homecoming on Oct. 18, and close out the regular season with a Thursday night contest Oct. 31 against Leflore County.
