Circuit clerk’s offices in Charleston and Sumner will be open the next two Saturdays to facilitate in-person absentee voting, Tallahatchie County Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal said Tuesday.
This Saturday, Oct. 24, both offices will be open from 8 a.m. until noon.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, circuit clerk’s offices will open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the last day that in-person absentee voting is allowed.
This special weekend schedule for absentee voting is mandated by the state for all circuit clerk’s offices throughout Mississippi.
COVID-19 safety procedures remain in effect.
“We would appreciate everyone wearing a mask, but we will provide one to any who do not have one,” said Neal. “We will also have hand sanitizer available.”
All mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3, and received within five business days of Election Day in order to count.
With over one week to go in the voting cycle, absentee balloting in Mississippi has already topped state figures from the last national election.
According to the secretary of state’s office, 120,253 absentee ballots have been requested by Mississippi voters this year, up from a final total of 110,812 in 2016.
Entering this week, 449 absentee ballots had been requested by Tallahatchie County voters, including 83 by persons 65 years of age or older, 187 by people citing a temporary disability and 127 by those who say they will be out of the county on Election Day.
