Another week saw another handful of candidates sign up to seek municipal office in Tallahatchie County elections this year, according to information provided Tuesday by city and town clerks.
The qualifying window opened on Jan. 4 and closes at 5 p.m. on Feb. 5 — just two weeks from this Friday.
The latest qualifiers include the following:
Charleston
» James Johnson, 67, of 130 Eskridge St., is a Democratic hopeful for Ward 5 city commissioner.
Tutwiler
» Incumbent Ward 3 Alderman James Farmer, 56, a Democrat of 786 Central St., is seeking reelection.
» Incumbent Ward 4 Alderwoman Dianne Pimpton, 57, a Democrat of 311 Second St., is vying for relection.
Webb
» Incumbent Ward 5 Alderman Willie J. Garner, 51, a Democrat of 223 S. Cree St., is seeking a second term on the Webb Board of Aldermen.
Anyone interested in seeking the offices of mayor or town alderman/city commissioner in Charleston, Glendora, Sumner, Tutwiler or Webb must file qualifying papers and pay any required fees at their municipal clerk’s office.
Primary election day for municipal offices is Tuesday, April 6. A primary runoff, if needed, would be April 27. The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8.
Those elected in June will begin a new four-year term on July 1.
