The unemployment rate in Tallahatchie County fell from 7.7% in October to 6.9% in November, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security has reported.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 330 members of the county’s 4,770-person labor force were unemployed in November. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for a job.
In October, 380 of 4,850 Tallahatchie County labor force members were jobless.
The county’s November unemployment rate was 1.7% higher than the 5.2% figure recorded in November 2019, when 270 of 5,090 available laborers 16 and older did not find work.
Mississippi’s jobless rate fell from 7.0% in October to 6.0% in November. However, it remained nine-tenths of 1% higher than the 5.1% rate recorded in November 2019.
The MDES reported that the number of unemployed persons in Mississippi decreased by 13,500 from October to November, while the total number of the employed rose 5,500 over the same period.
Thirty-two of the state’s 82 counties posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 6.0%.
Nationally, the jobless rate fell from 6.6% in October to 6.4% in November but remained almost double the 3.3% rate one year ago.

At 16.4%, Jefferson County had the state’s highest jobless rate in November. Rankin County’s 3.7% was the lowest.
