Residents of Tallahatchie and 35 other Mississippi counties are now eligible to apply for individual federal assistance in the wake of the ice storm, Jan. 23-27.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency Saturday announced that President Donald Trump had approved Gov. Tate Reeves’ request for individual assistance for state residents impacted by Winter Storm Fern.
The funding is available to residents in Adams, Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Claiborne, Coahoma, DeSoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Montgomery, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Yalobusha and Yazoo counties and the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

Individual assistance can include grants for home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of this disaster.
According to FEMA, individuals who sustained losses in these counties should first file claims with their insurance carrier and then apply for federal assistance by registering online at the website, www.disasterassistance.gov, or by calling 800-621-3362, or 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired, or on the FEMA app.
When prompted, list the disaster number DR-4899.
FEMA assistance cannot help with losses already covered by insurance, according to the agency.
The IRS announced Tuesday that certain tax relief is available for individuals and businesses in all 82 counties in Mississippi.
For instance, Mississippians have until June 8 to file various individual and business tax returns and to make tax payments, the IRS noted.
