With the passing of an Aug. 20 qualifying deadline for two school board seats in Tallahatchie County, final lineups for the Nov. 3 general election are set, including a last-minute filer who has added intrigue.
A latecomer to the school board election is Daniel A. Tenner, 37, of 1409 Saw Mill St., Charleston, who filed qualifying papers and petition forms just 13 minutes before the 5 p.m. deadline last Thursday.
Tenner is a candidate for the Education District 6 post, representing a seat on the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
The incumbent Education District 6 officeholder, Audra Denise “Temp” Brown, who turns 58 this week, is seeking election to a second five-year term as a member of the Charleston school board, where she presently serves as board secretary.
In Education District 1, Lucinda Berryhill, 71, of Tutwiler, is unopposed in her bid to continue in her seat on the West Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Members of the East and West Tallahatchie school districts’ five-member boards of trustees serve staggered five-year terms, with one seat in each district coming up for election every fall.
