SUMNER — Frank M. Mitchener Jr. was recently honored on his 91st birthday, which just happened to coincide with the precise date 57 years ago that he began serving his first term as an alderman in the town of Sumner.
He has served continuously as an alderman ever since.
To celebrate both milestones, Mayor Jackson Webb IV and other members of the Board of Aldermen surprised Mitchener with presentation of a special resolution during the Oct. 1 regularly scheduled meeting of the board at Sumner Town Hall.

Sumner Town Clerk Toni T. Clark said Mitchener’s wife, Judith; their daughter, Julia Turnipseed; and their grandson, Watson Turnipseed, were on hand for the occasion and greeted a “very surprised” Mitchener when he arrived for the meeting.
Mitchener first took office Oct. 1, 1967, and has been reelected as a Sumner alderman in every election since.

RESOLUTION HONORING FRANK M. MITCHENER, JR.
WHEREAS, Frank M. Mitchener, Jr. has served as a Town Board Member for an extraordinary 57 years, demonstrating unwavering commitment and dedication to the betterment of our community; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Frank M. Mitchener, Jr., has played an integral role in shaping policies, advocating for residents, and fostering community spirit; and
WHEREAS, Frank M. Mitchener, Jr.’s leadership has resulted in improvements in our town too numerous to name; and
WHEREAS, Frank M. Mitchener, Jr. has been a mentor and source of inspiration to many, embodying the values of public service, integrity, and compassion; and
WHEREAS, Frank M. Mitchener, Jr.’s contributions have left an indelible mark on our town, enhancing the quality of life for all residents; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Sumner, Mississippi, expresses its deepest gratitude to Frank M. Mitchener, Jr. for his remarkable service and commitment to our community.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Sumner, Mississippi, wish Frank M. Mitchener, Jr. a Happy 91st Birthday on this day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
1. That a copy of this Resolution be presented to Frank M. Mitchener, Jr. as a token of our appreciation and recognition of his exemplary service.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Sumner, Mississippi.
