Southern Baptist Seminary Extension will offer two courses in Charleston this fall. Both meet on Monday nights, beginning Sept. 16.
New Testament Survey is a three-hour credit course covering the four Gospels and Acts. It meets at Faith Church, 30028 Highway 32, just east of Charleston, from 6-7:20 p.m. It is a course not only for pastors and ministerial students, but for Sunday school teachers and church leaders who want to do a more effective job.
Systematic Christian Theology is a three-hour credit course that enables the student to express his/her beliefs in a consistent, effective way, without discrepancies. It is not designed to indoctrinate students with the beliefs of any denomination, but to help students conform their beliefs and expressions of what they believe to be consistent with scriptural teaching. It meets at Faith Church, Charleston, from 6:30-8:50 on Monday evenings.
Both courses are taught by local pastor, Joe Young. He holds a master’s degree in New Testament and New Testament Theology from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the same school.
Prior to teaching Seminary Extension, Young taught New Testament for Gateway Seminary at their Jackson, Mississippi, center, Instituto Teologico Bautista. He has 56 years of experience in ministry as a pastor, missionary and teacher.
To keep costs low, Young allows students to buy books through discount marketplaces, offers courses locally and accepts no salary. Students only pay a low tuition of generally less than $200.
