Three more Tallahatchians have been identified as COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the county’s pandemic-related death toll to 71, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The 69th and 70th deaths were revealed by MSDH on March 1.
MSDH noted that the 69th local victim was one of 12 COVID-related state deaths occurring between Feb. 12 and Feb. 26.
The 70th Tallahatchian was among 19 Mississippians who died between Aug. 23, 2022, and Feb. 15, 2023, whose cause of death was confirmed through death certificate reports.
The 71st local death to COVID was announced March 8 and was one of 17 in the state occurring between April 11, 2022, and Feb. 21, 2023, and identified from death certificate reports.
The most recent weekly report of county-by-county data, released by MSDH March 8, shows there have been 3,888 cases of Tallahatchie County residents testing positive for COVID.
The first positive case of the virus in Tallahatchie was reported by MSDH on March 23, 2020. The first local death was revealed April 17, 2020.
Statewide since March 2020, there have been 990,756 positive cases and 13,370 deaths of Mississippians attributed in some manner to COVID-19.
