Another Tallahatchian has been identified as a COVID-19 fatality, bringing the county’s pandemic-related death toll to 72, according to statistics released last week by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The latest local victim was among 12 Mississippians who died between Jan. 18 and April 27, MSDH revealed in its May 4 weekly report.
The 72nd COVID death was the first reported by MSDH for Tallahatchie County since March 8.
May 4 MSDH statistics showed there have been 3,912 cases of Tallahatchie County residents testing positive for COVID.
The first positive case of the virus in Tallahatchie was reported by MSDH on March 23, 2020. The first local death was revealed April 17, 2020.
Statewide since March 2020, there have been 999,615 positive cases and 13,470 deaths of Mississippians attributed in some manner to COVID-19.
