The remnants of what once was Category 2 Hurricane Francine blew into Tallahatchie County late last week, bringing heavy rain and some gusty winds Thursday and Friday.
Thad Roberts, director of the Tallahatchie County Emergency Management Agency, said little damage was reported in the county.
At the home of Frank and Tammy Orrell south of Paynes, a large oak tree fell on a 2020 Hyundai Elantra parked in the yard. In a Facebook post, Tammy said the tree was over 150 years old.
“Just thankful it wasn’t the house,” she added.
Roberts said it was likely “straight-line winds” that brought down the tree.
Flooding of a few homes and other structures was reported, Roberts added, noting that sandbags were made available at the county barn.
