February unemployment in Tallahatchie County fell to 3.5%, a decrease of one-tenth of 1% from January’s revised figure of 3.6%, the Mississippi Department of Employment Security has announced.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 160 members of the county’s 4,490-person labor force were unemployed in February while 4,330 were working.
The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking.
In January, 160 of 4,520 labor force members were jobless and 4,360 were employed.
The county’s February jobless rate was 1.3% lower than the 4.8% figure recorded in February 2022, when 230 of 4,680 available laborers age 16 and up did not find work.
The Mississippi unemployment rate stood at 3.2% in February, an improvement of three-tenths of 1% from January’s 3.5%. The state’s February jobless rate is 1% lower than the 4.2% figure in 2021.
Nationally, the jobless rate was flat, 3.9% in January and February, but was improved from 4.1% last February.
