Tallahatchie County and its municipalities received more than $140,000 in fire rebate funds from the Mississippi Insurance Department’s Fire Services Division in August.
The money is for fiscal year 2026, a press release noted.

Rebate funds may be used for such authorized fire-protection purposes as firefighter training, fire trucks and firefighting equipment, insurance on firefighting equipment, fire stations and facilities, approved fire protection service contracts, and technology needed for required incident reporting.
“These funds provide critical support to fire departments across Mississippi, helping communities purchase fire trucks and other essential equipment and invest in the training firefighters need to respond when emergencies happen,” said State Fire Marshal and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney.
“We hope to see even more funds distributed in 2027, upon approval from the state legislature. By supporting those who protect us, we are helping keep our communities safer.”
Altogether, an estimated $23 million in fiscal year ’26 fire rebate funds were given to support fire protection services across Mississippi, including $11.5 million for 82 counties and $11.5 million for 294 municipalities.
The Insurance Department said counties and municipalities receiving these funds are required to maintain the funds in dedicated accounts, keep them separate from other revenue, meet reporting requirements and use the funds only for authorized purposes.
The Insurance Department reminded local officials that the listed amounts are estimates and are subject to program eligibility and compliance requirements, and that improper use or mismanagement of funds may result in repayment, suspension or loss of future funding eligibility.
