As the Nov. 2 general election draws nearer, absentee voting continues for the only race that will appear on Tallahatchie County ballots.
Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal said there will be no voting at all in western Tallahatchie County, and the only contested race on the east side of the river is for a school board position in the East Tallahatchie School District.
In Education District 6, incumbent Lincoln “Buddy” Smith, 40, of 148 Martin Luther King Dr., Charleston, is opposed for reelection by Audra Denise Brown, 53, of 1217 Teasdale Road, Charleston.
Members of the East and West Tallahatchie school districts’ five-member boards of trustees serve staggered five-year terms, with one seat in each district coming up for election every fall.
In Education District 1, incumbent Lucinda Berryhill, 66, of Tutwiler, is unopposed for reelection to her seat on the West Tallahatchie board.
To facilitate in-person absentee voting, the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston — and others around Mississippi — will be open on consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. until noon.
