The unemployment rate in Tallahatchie County fell three-tenths of 1% to stand at 4.1% in August, according to a preliminary report released Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 23) by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
The MDES, which compiles the state’s employment data, noted that 180 members of the county’s 4,490-person labor force were unemployed in August. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
In July, 200 of 4,500 local labor force members were jobless and unemployment stood at 4.4%.
The county’s August jobless rate was five-tenths of 1% higher than the 3.6% of August 2024.
The Mississippi unemployment rate stood at 4.2% in August, while joblessness in the United States was measured at 4.5%.

Jefferson County had the state’s highest jobless rate of 10.8% in August. Rankin County, at 3.1%, had the lowest unemployment rate.
